The Cowboys drafted Gallup in 2018

NFL veteran receiver Micahel Gallup’s time in Dallas looks to be ending, as the writing on the wall indicates that he will not play for the Cowboys in 2024.

The 28-year-old Cowboys receiver has been granted permission by the franchise to seek a trade partner and will reportedly be released if he finds no suitors.

Gallup’s name has been in trade talks since last season’s deadline, but the team elected not to move him because they were preparing for a playoff run.

However, now in the offseason, the Cowboys are letting him find a new team interested in making a deal for his services, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Gallup is entering the third year of his five-year, $57.5 million contract, and the team is looking to save some cap space.

With Gallup’s contract structure, $4 million of his $8.5 million base salary for 2024 will become guaranteed if he is still on the roster by March 17.

And if Dallas chooses to keep Gallup next season that would cost the team a $13.8 million cap hit.

Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones spoke about Gallup’s status with the team at the NFL’s Scouting Combine and expressed things are still up in the air while sharing they will keep him in communication.

“We don’t have a decision that we would like to talk about right now,” Jones said.

“It’s one that we will be going over with him. Nothing we would say without him being involved. We need to sit down and go over stuff with him before we talk about what we’re going to do with him.”

Gallup has spent six seasons in the NFL and playing for only Dallas.

He was selected in the third round of the 2018 NFL draft after a solid college career at Colorado State.

Gallup grew into a reliable target for the offense catching 266 passes for 3,744 yards and 21 touchdowns, making over $30 million in that span.

He is coming off the worst season of his career, throwing 33 passes for 418 yards and two touchdowns while appearing in all 17 games.

The veteran receiver is unlikely to find a trade partner but should have several teams lined up if he gets released.

If he hits the open market, he will join several star receivers, such as Odell Beckham Jr., Allen Robinson II, Calvin Ridley, and Gabe Davis.
