Angelina Jolie has undoubtedly had her ups and downs with some of her family members, but her older brother James Haven has remained fiercely protective of his sister – and the six children she shares with her ex-husband, Brad Pitt.

In a new – and rare – public interview on the 90who10 podcast, Haven shared, “I think it’s natural,” referring to his sibling protectiveness. “That’s where it all started. It started with the protection of her and her children, my nieces and nephews.”

Jolie and Pitt share six children together: Maddox, 22, Pax, 20, Zahara, 18, Shiloh, 17, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 15. “They’re becoming young adults,” Haven said in the interview. “[They’re in their] early 20s. That’s so crazy thinking that. I think it’s just very natural. I just want to be there.”

Ange’s brother has largely remained out of the spotlight – though the siblings did stir controversy back in the early 2000s when they were seen, erm, kissing at public events, including the Oscars in 2000, where she won an Academy Award for best supporting actress thanks to her role in the film Girl, Interrupted.

However, it was later revealed that there had been a lot happening behind the scenes that day. According to Jolie’s former carer Cis Rundle, Haven and Jolie’s mother had just begun treatment for the cancer that would tragically take her life seven years later, as previously reported.

Who are Angelina Jolie and James Haven’s parents?

Jolie, 48, and Haven, 50, are the children of actor Jon Voight (Midnight Cowboy, Mission: Impossible, Anaconda) and the late actress and former model Marcheline Bertrand (Lookin’ to Get Out, The Man Who Loved Women).

According to Hello!, Jolie and her older brother moved with their mother to New York after their father left.

While both siblings previously had a strained relationship with their dad, it appears that Haven has since reconciled with his parent, as they were pictured together on an outing in 2022, per British media.

Per Hola!, Jolie and Haven decided to drop their father’s surname Voight to take their mother’s surname before they rose to fame in the showbiz industry. The source adds that the Disney’s Maleficent actress eventually legally took on her current surname, which used to be her middle name, and means “pretty” in French. Haven also adopted his middle name as his last name, per the same report.

While Haven never ended up achieving the same level of fame as his Oscar winner sister, he did appear in a string of films and TV shows, including Original Sin, featuring Ange and Antonio Banderas, and Stay Alive, per Hola!

He was also the executive producer for the documentary Trudell and wrote and directed Court of Conscience, which stars his dad.

Some sources claim that Haven tied the knot with a woman named Lisa McDorven in February 2009, though this hasn’t been confirmed by the actor.

But in 2021, British media reported that he was dating his karate instructor girlfriend Ashley Reign.

Being a very private person, Haven hasn’t publicly provided many details about his love life.

As stated in his recent interview on 90who10, he’s always going to be there for his little sis, no matter what. “I set my life up so I can be present with whatever the situation,” he explained. “The formative years, the young adults they’re going to become, I want to be there for them, or for her, whatever she’s going through,” he declared, referring to his nieces and nephews.

Back in 2016, he reportedly even became a full-time nanny to Jolie and Pitt’s children after the former couple’s split and the divorce and custody battles were just beginning, according to British media.

As previously shared, however, in 2017, Jolie actually fired him from the role, which raised questions around what might’ve happened – though they seem like they’ve been on good terms since.
