Lady Gaga never skips the opportunity to make a red carpet statement and she had her very own Cinderella moment at the Golden Globes in January 2019.

The singer took home the statue for her song Shallow in A Star Is Born on the night and her dramatic dress was a tribute to the iconic actress that made the role famous, Judy Garland.

While many A-listers are loaned their gowns for award nights and glitzy events, Lady Gaga’s Valentino Haute Couture gown went on to make headlines for a very different reason, as it had quite an adventure of its own after the Golden Globes.

All eyes were on Gaga at the Golden Globes who looked every inch the Hollywood movie star as she walked the red carpet in a flowing periwinkle blue gown that was custom-made for her by Valentino’s creative director and all-round couturier to the stars Pierpaolo Piccioli.

Made from silk faille, the strapless dress brought real drama thanks to the massive puffed sleeves. The impossible-to-miss dress featured a long voluminous skirt and Gaga arrived with two stylists in tow to make it look picture-perfect for the press as she walked the red carpet.

She complemented the look with five million dollars worth of Tiffany & Co jewellery. The Aurora necklace, which was designed especially for her for the awards ceremony, featured 300 diamonds with a pear-shaped stone in the middle. She also wore earrings with a diamond and platinum cluster and a diamond bracelet to complement the dazzling necklace.

There have been so many fabulous beauty looks at the Golden Globes through the years and the innovative songstress even dyed her hair the same colour as her dress for the occasion.

Sara Corea, a housekeeper who had been working at the Beverly Hilton which hosted the Golden Globes event for 24 years, discovered the couture creation in her room the day after the awards ceremony. Then the beautiful blue number took a trip to the Lost and Found where it spent months gathering dust.

The housekeeper then decided to put Lady Gaga’s dress up for sale with Los Angeles Nate D. Saunders Auctions with the bidding starting at $8,000. In the lot, there was a handwritten letter of authentication from the employee which explained how the dress came to be in her possession.

In the letter, she claimed that the dress was a gift from the A-lister, as she wrote ‘The artist (singer) “Lady Gaga” left me this dress that she used for the day of the awards’ before adding in brackets ‘won first place because of the dress’.

The letter continued to highlight: ‘After the time legally held by lost and found they gave it to me as a gift from her’.

This sparked a ferocious row between the iconic fashion house and the auctioneers, as Valentino contended that it was not the hotel’s property to sell.

Also, at the time The Telegraph reported that Lady Gaga left the dress in her hotel as she expected it to be collected by a team from Valentino.

The Daily Mail reported that some lucky bidder just missed out on Lady Gaga’s dreamy dress for $19,000 as the dress was pulled from the auction just minutes before bidding was about to close.

In a statement to the Daily Mail, the auction house confirmed that the gown was returned to the Valentino archives.
