Al Pacino announced Oppenheimer as the Best Picture winner without bothering to name all the other nominees while Emma Stone had an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction as the chaos toward the end of the Oscars broadcast took center stage on Hollywood’s biggest night.
Oppenheimer was the biggest winner of the night as it earned seven including top honor Best Picture and major wins for Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., and Christopher Nolan while Emma led Poor Things to an impressive four including her Best Actress win and UK film The Zone Of Interest won two.
Even after the actress’ embarrassing moment with her dress, it was shaping up to be a decent end to the 96th annual Academy Awards telecast at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California on Sunday until the Hollywood legend rushed through his presenting of the last award of the night.
The 83-year-old Scarface star hit the stage and made an awkward joke about performing Shakespeare before jumping straight to announcing the Best Picture winner.
He said: ‘Wow. What — thank you. Oh, my friends. Thank you, thank you. I don’t know. Should I do some Shakespeare now? That’s in order, right? To be — no, I’m not going to do Sorry. Well, this is the time for the last award of the evening. And it’s my honor to present it.

Meanwhile Emma, 35, powered through a wardrobe malfunction as she beat out an impressive field including favorite Lily Gladstone from Killers Of The Flower Moon in addition to Annette Bening, Nyad, Sandra Huller, Anatomy of a Fall, and Carey Mulligan, Maestro.
As Emma was walking on stage she signaled that there was something wrong with her dress as she quickly acknowledged it during her emotional acceptance speech.
She said: ‘Oh, boy. My dress is broken. I think it happened during I’m Just Ken. I’m pretty sure. Oh, boy, this is really — this is really overwhelming. Sorry, I’m — okay, my voice is also a little gone. Whatever.’
Emma thanked her fellow nominees in addition to the five former Best Actress winners Sally Field, Michelle Yeoh, Charlize Theron, Jessica Lange, and Jennifer Lawrence.
The A-lister said: ‘ The women on the stage, you are all incredible, and the women in this category — um — Sandra, Annette, Carey, Lily, I share this with you. I’m in awe of you. It’s been such an honor to do all of this together, I hope we get to keep doing more together.
‘I don’t know what I’m saying, oh, my god, I’m totally — okay.’

She went on to talk about a conversation she had with Poor Things director Yorgos Lanthimos leading up to the event.
Emma explained: ‘The other night, I was panicking, as you can kind of see, happens a lot — that maybe something like this could happen and Yorgos said to me, please take yourself out of it. And he was right, because it’s not about me. It’s about a team that came together to make something greater than the sum of its parts. And that is the best part about making movies.
‘Is all of us together, and I am so deeply honored to share this with every cast member, with every crew member, with every single person who poured their love and their care and their brilliance into the making of this film, and Yorgos, thank you for the gift of a lifetime in Bella Baxter. I’m forever thankful for you. Thank you for inviting all of us to be members of this team. Thank you.’

This came after Cillian Murphy won the Oscar after being nominated for an Academy Award for the first time in his career as he triumphed over Bradley Cooper, Maestro, Colman Domingo, Rustin, Paul Giamatti, The Holdovers, and Jeffrey Wright, American Fiction.
He kept his acceptance speech short and sweet as he said: ‘ Oh. I’m a little overwhelmed. Thank you to the academy. Um — Chris Nolan and Emma Thomas, it’s been the wildest, most exhilarating, most creatively satisfying journey you’ve taken me on over the last 20 years, I owe you more than I can say. Thank you so much.
‘Every single crew member, every single cast member on Oppenheimer, you guys carried me through. All my fellow nominees, I remain in awe of you guys. I want to thank my incredible team. Brendan Murphy, Mary Murphy, my two boys who are sitting up there, I love you so much, and I’m a very proud Irishman standing here tonight, so — [ applause ] You know, we made a film — we made a film about the man who created the atomic bomb, and for better or for worse, we’re all living in Oppenheimer’s world, so, I would like to dedicate this to the peacemakers everywhere.’
