Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey seemingly had a fairy tale romance. After a six week courtship the pair wed at Mariah’s estate in the Bahamas in April 2008. Filled with laughter, affection, and ring pops, the couple were said to have been madly in love.

But after six years together, they split in 2014. In this episode we are going to revisit the ‘love story’ of Nick Cannon, Mariah Carey, and everything in between.

In 2001, Mariah Carey faced a challenging period in her life, dealing with her ex-husband’s attempts to undermine her career and struggling with mental health issues. Exhausted and in pain, she reached a breaking point, leading her to seek solace at her mother’s place. Unlike the typical celebrity response involving sedatives, Mariah’s mother, being a regular citizen, called 9-1-1 out of genuine concern for her daughter’s well-being.

Addressing the suicide rumors that circulated during this time, Mariah expressed her concern for fans who might emulate her actions. She emphasized the importance of dispelling the misconception that facing personal problems equates to attempting self-harm. Mariah clarified that her hospital visit was due to exhaustion, not a nervous breakdown, and highlighted the significance of acknowledging her human limitations.

By 2002, Mariah was ready to move forward with her personal and professional life, preparing to release her ninth studio album, “Charmbracelet.” However, her plans took an unexpected turn when rapper Eminem mentioned her in his song “Superman” from his 2002 album, “The Eminem Show.” Eminem claimed they had a romantic relationship, but Mariah vehemently denied any intimacy, stating that she had not been involved with him in that manner.

The situation escalated as Eminem continued to discuss their alleged relationship in media interviews. Mariah, during her album promotions, clarified that she wanted to collaborate with Eminem for her album, but their interactions were limited to a few meetings. In her song “Clown,” Mariah ambiguously addressed the situation.

The media fueled the feud, reporting Eminem’s claims and Mariah’s responses. Reports emerged of Eminem saving voicemails from Mariah, leading to speculation about potential songs using those recordings. Mariah dismissed these claims, considering them excessive and not reflective of the reality of their interactions.

The feud persisted, with both artists engaging in a public back-and-forth through various media outlets. Mariah’s tour in 2003-2004 included a segment seemingly addressing Eminem, featuring a marionette set parodying “The Eminem Show.” During the performance of “Clown,” a dancer with a blonde wig and a Detroit Pistons jersey appeared on stage, leaving little doubt about the target of the parody.

Cannon also spills on his failed engagement to Selita Ebanks and how Mariah wanted a bigger, better ring.

Nick Cannon is reflecting on one of his most epic public beefs, involving rapper Eminem and his ex-wife, Mariah Carey.

While appearing on a recent episode of T.I.’s ExpediTIously podcast, Cannon looked back on his relationship with the singer, their engagement and marriage and how he found himself in a feud with Eminem right after they tied the knot.

Following their wedding in 2008, Eminem released the diss track “Bagpipes From Baghdad,” where he asked, “Mariah whatever happened to us/Why did we ever have to break up?” In the song, he also said he wanted her back and told Cannon to “back the f— up.” Carey, for her part, denied they ever hooked up.

“He didn’t wanna battle me, it could have went down. I was like, whatever he wanna do, I’m with it,” said Cannon, looking back at the incident now. “You in a situation, we was flying back on a jet from Africa somewhere and this mother f–ker drop a song talking shit, calling her all kind of bitches and hoes. I’m like, this is my wife, this my new wife.”

“I wrote a letter first — I don’t even know if Twitter had came out yet — I wrote this long ass letter saying I respect you as an artist, I’m actually a fan, I think you are one of the best to ever do it, but from man to man, you talking out of pocket to my wife,” continued Nick. “You gotta be held accountable for that. I need to see you face to face. Face to face, let’s get to it. Whatever happens face to face, happens.”

After T.I. noted that Eminem, real name Marshall Mathers, has “Crazy white boy energy,” Cannon said he was ready for “whatever” and added he actually “went looking for him.” Claiming he called managers, Nick said, “I was like, look, if you wanna get on the phone, if I gotta go to Detroit. You done disrespected my wife. I gotta show my wife I’m a man, number one. And two, he said my name. I said, ‘I know I’m not going to be able to out rap you, but I will whoop your ass.'”

He added that “cooler heads prevailed” and gave props to Carey for calling out Eminem herself with her single, “Obsessed.” Cannon also said he wished the rapper would have come on “Wild ‘N Out” following their feud, to “have some fun with it.”

“He still in my top 5. You just gotta be held accountable,” added Cannon. “If you say something, we need to have a conversation like men. He was talking and running. He apologized. He did apologize though.”

Going back in time a bit, Cannon also talked to T.I. about the idea of marriage and how much money he dropped on rings for both Selita Ebanks and Mariah, who demanded a better rock.

“I believe relationships, mainly marriage, is designed to please women,” he said. “We just show up. Even at my wedding, I was a part of the wedding. Tell me where to stand, where to go, I’ll be there. You wanna stunt for the woman you love. I’ll never do it again.”

“Mariah Carey is an entrepreneur and a brilliant businesswoman. Our wedding was on her island in the Bahamas at the house. And she took a music video budget to pay for the wedding,” he continued. “Hats off to her, a very brilliant woman. If I wanted to do it again, it would be to her! I was in my 20s when it happened, I was a hopeless romantic, I was always getting engaged because I wanted to be married.”

Of his engagement to Ebanks, he said he spent nearly “everything I had” on her sparkler, going big by proposing in Times Square with a camera crew in tow. After that relationship fell apart, she gave the ring back and he returned it to the jeweler, who then made his rock for Mimi.

“Then it’s time to propose to Mariah, I gotta spend more money. Even Mariah tells me, ‘I seen the little ring you gave that girl!'” claimed Cannon. “So I go back to my guy [Jacob the Jeweler], I was like I gotta bigger than what I did before. Push all my chips in. I think this one was at least 16 carats total.”

“She might have been joking, but she said that shit,” he added of Carey.

Nick and Mariah were married from 2008 to 2014 and share twins Moroccan and Monroe, who are now 8. They appear to have a healthy coparenting relationship.
