Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic continued his record-breaking streak at No 1 in the ATP Rankings on Monday, but Carlos Alcaraz was the big winner at the Indian Wells Open after holding off Jannik Sinner for the No 2 ranking.

Despite his shock third-round exit from the ATP Masters 1000 event, Djokovic was always assured of remaining at No 1 in the rankings and he has now spent an incredible 417 weeks at the top – or 7.997 years if you like.

The good news for the 24-time Grand Slam winner – currently in his 10th stint at the top – is that he is mathematically assured of staying No 1 for at least another three weeks which will take him to 420 weeks – a record that might be impossible to break.

However, he has opened the door for those behind him with his decision to withdraw from the Miami Open giving Alcaraz in particular hope of catching him after the Monte Carlo Masters. However, Alcaraz will likely have to complete the Sunshine Double with a title run at Florida if he is to return to No 1 on April 15.

But for now, Djokovic enjoys a handy 920-point lead over Alcaraz with the Spaniard 495 points ahead of Sinner in third place.

Sinner had an opportunity to overhaul Alcaraz and reach a new career-high of No 2, but the Italian was beaten in the semi-final by the two-time Grand Slam winner, who went on to defeat Daniil Medvedev in the final.

And with Sinner having 600 points to defend at the Miami Open after finishing runner-up last year, Alcaraz looks set to stay at No 2 for another couple of weeks.

Medvedev remains a lonely fourth, 545 points behind Sinner, while Alexander Zverev has moved up one spot following his run to the quarter-final in Indian Wells. The only other change in the top 10 sees Casper Ruud and Hubert Hurkacz swap places.

Further down the list Tommy Paul moves up three places to No 14 after reaching the semi-finals in California and Alexander Bublik is now at a career-high No 18 after moving up two spots.

Gael Monfils, meanwhile, is back in the top 50 for the first time since October 2022 as he is up seven places to No 47. The 18-year-old Jakub Mensik continues his rise as he jumps 11 places to No 70.

The biggest fairytale story from the Indian Wells Open was Luca Nardi after the 20-year-old Italian stunned Djokovic in the third round and he has cracked the top 100 for the first time as he surged 27 spots to No 96.
