The Voice Coach and his wife, Abby, reveal their beloved pooch was diagnosed with cancer.
Dan Smyers and his wife, Abby Smyers, are proud dog parents who are staying strong after facing some difficult news regarding one of their beloved pets.
On March 4, Abby posted an emotional video on her Instagram story, tearfully walking fans through the process of their dog, Joy, getting diagnosed with cancer: an uncommon and “more aggressive” Grade 3 sarcoma, which means the pooch is facing multiple surgeries and chemotherapy.
”Our dogs are such a huge part of our lives. And we share them so often. And so many of you were so kind in reaching out when Joy had surgery,” Abby said with sincerity.
”I’m just trying to take everything step by step,” she added, asking followers to pray for the dog. ”Her quality of life is the most important to me. We will do anything for her.”
Abby also shared a picture of the pooch lying on a couch, looking adorably sleepy. ”[Dan Smyers] and I will move mountains for her. She will get the best care and if anyone has advice, I would be so grateful.”

”We love this dog so much,” Smyers wrote on the same photo on his Instagram story.
Dan, Abby, and their fur babies
Smyers’ and Abby’s relationship is so deeply tied to their love for dogs that the two even met at a Nashville-based animal rescue center in 2013, according to Country Living.
Their 2016 wedding registry also requested donations for a local dog-fostering center, Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue. Three of their pups — Chief, Joy, and Ghost — were also present at the wedding party.

“The father to our canines. The keeper of my heart. The hardest-working man I know. My best friend. My partner. My husband,” Abby wrote on Instagram in 2017 on a picture of their wedding day. “Thank you for making my dreams come true and choosing me to walk beside you in this life.”
On Thanksgiving 2023, Abby posted adorable snapshots of herself and Smyers cuddling with four of their dogs. In the first picture, Abby holds two pups while one of them kisses her face, and Smyers smiles at another dog. Then, Smyers puts his arm around his wife while a furry friends sits in each of their laps, and two of the other two dogs sit on the couch, looking at the camera. How cute!
“Very grateful for you, my crew. 🧡Happy Thanksgiving to all!” Abby wrote in the caption.
We got another glimpse into their dog-filled life in Christmas 2023, when Smyers shared a time lapse video of he and Abby putting up their Christmas tree as the pooches watched in fascination.
