Some Blind Auditions on The Voice come down to the wire!
The Voice Blind Auditions are all thrilling in their own way. Sometimes a Coach and a singer fit each other perfectly from the opening notes, sometimes a huge battle between Coaches ensues, and sometimes you get a Block button deployed. Then there are those rare Blinds that come down to the final seconds, when a Coach finally hits that button and makes someone’s dream come true.
For 32-year-old Alyssa Crosby, that’s exactly what happened in Episode 4 of The Voice‘s 25th season. A singer, bartender, and cat lover from New York, Crosby described in her introduction how she’s turned her life around by quitting alcohol and finding love. Taking the next step in her singing career is her next major goal.
“Finally I think I’m ready to take the next step with music and prove myself to the world,” she said.
Then came the Blind Audition, and a thrilling triumph at the very end.

For her Blind, Crosby chose a soulful, stripped-down version of Alanis Morissette’s hit “Hand in My Pocket,” and right away she had the crowd on her side. What took a little longer was drawing the attention of a Coach, as all four sat and listened to every note, every word, carefully weighing their options. As the Blind Auditions wear on, Coaches find themselves getting more and more selective with turning their chairs, and Crosby’s Audition was a classic case of that, so much so that it seemed for a moment like she might not get a single chair.
Then, with just seconds remaining, Coach Reba McEntire hit her button, securing Crosby’s place in The Voice competition.
Though the other Coaches didn’t necessarily turn their chairs, they did still have kind words for Crosby when the audition ended.
“There were some moments that were just so powerful and so strong, and your voice has a really nice roundness to it,” John Legend said. “I think you’re gonna do really well on the show.”
Dan Smyers, one half of Dan + Shay, added, “You have a super dynamic voice. I think it was just a little bit pitchy for me in certain spots, but I feel like you could chalk that up to nerves, maybe. But I’m so glad you’re on The Voice.”
But of course, McEntire won the day and had nothing but joy to share over her new team member.
“You’ve got a great voice,” she said. “I’m just tickled to pieces that you’re on my team.”
After the Audition, McEntire added, “I feel like I’m on fire. Alyssa’s voice was really good, unique, she had that soulfulness that I absolutely fell in love with.”
