Top tennis stars have made their way to Indian Wells, the first Masters 1000 tournament of the season. Among them are Novak Djokovic and Holger Rune, who are looking to claim their first title of the season here. The duo were seen practicing together ahead of their second-round match. A hilarious incident occurred while they enjoyed their time at a practice session.
Both Rune and Djokovic open their campaign tomorrow as they were handed a bye in the opening round. While Djokovic is the top seed and a firm favorite to win this tournament, Rune is seeded seventh. Let’s find out about the incident that unfolded between Rune and Djokovic.
Holger Rune and Novak Djokovic compare their physicality
The duo was involved in an enticing practice session at Indian Wells. After their lengthy training, Novak Djokovic and Holger Rune were caught sharing a light moment together. In a picture that is going viral on Twitter, Djokovic and Rune can be seen embracing each other. Further, their leg muscles were on full display, as questions arose about who has the better muscles between the two.
However, Holger Rune laughed off those comparisons with two simple emojis, indicating that there was no clear winner as far as their leg muscles were concerned. With the modern game fast advancing, the physical side of things has become a crucial element for success. Both Rune and Djokovic boast strong leg muscles, as the picture indicates.
Not just the leg muscles but also Rune’s playing style has drawn comparison to Novak Djokovic. Strong off the baseline, Rune has a solid return game, much like the Serb. As a result, he once drew parallels to Djokovic in terms of his playing style.
When Rune was compared to Djokovic
During an interview last year, Rune’s performance coach, Mike James, made a big admission about the Danish tennis sensation. He compared him to the Serbinator and Roger Federer due to his style of play.
James said, “His explosiveness, his creativity, his sense of the game mark me, but the most important thing is his mentality. He is the ultimate competitor, he has this obsession to win, even in table tennis!”
Novak Djokovic’s Yearning for Glory Forces Him to Pull off the Impossible in Serbia’s Unfulfilled Dream
Further, he added, “Holger is Holger, he has his own game. But if I had to make a comparison, he could be a mix of Djokovic and Federer. Novak for repeatability and power, Roger for flair and creativity.”
Holger Rune and Djokovic have been drawn in the same half at Indian Wells. It’ll be interesting to see who comes out on the top if they clash in the tournament.
