In both his professional and personal life, singer Justin Timberlake has had to publicly apologize to his wife, former girlfriend, and female colleagues.
Apologies to ex-girlfriend Britney Spears and singer Janet Jackson:
This year, two documentary films have attracted media and public attention. The first film, “Framing Britney Spears,” released in February, revolves around the skyrocketing career and subsequent downfall of pop singer Britney Spears in the 2000s.
The film touches on how the men in Britney’s life contributed negatively to her life under the scrutiny of the media and the public. Among them, singer Justin Timberlake – who was linked with Britney during their youth – is mentioned for his behavior that caused repercussions for Britney when they split.
When they broke up, Timberlake appeared to be heartbroken. He composed songs, produced music videos, and staged performances implying that he had been betrayed by his partner. The “narratives” Timberlake presented caused Britney to be scrutinized extensively about her personal life after their highly publicized relationship ended in the early 2000s.
The second documentary, “Malfunction: The Dressing Down Of Janet Jackson,” premiered in November, delving into the incident during the Super Bowl (US) halftime show in 2004 involving Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake.
At that time, Justin Timberlake ripped off Janet Jackson’s top, exposing one of her breasts on live television in front of millions of viewers.
Both of these documentary films focus on two women who have faced negative impacts due to Justin Timberlake’s behavior. These impacts affected both their careers and personal lives.
In fact, earlier this year, following the release of the documentary film “Framing Britney Spears,” Justin Timberlake publicly apologized to both Britney Spears and Janet Jackson via social media.
Immediately after the release of the documentary “Framing Britney Spears,” Timberlake wrote via his personal social media account: “I am deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, where I spoke out of turn, or did not speak up for what was right. I understand that I fell short in these moments and in many others and benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism.”
“I specifically want to apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually because I care for and respect these women and I know I failed. I also feel compelled to respond, in part, because everyone involved deserves better and most importantly because this is a larger conversation that I wholeheartedly want to be part of and grow from…”
Apology to wife Jessica Biel:
Justin Timberlake publicly apologized to his wife, actress Jessica Biel, at the end of 2019 for holding hands with co-star Alisha Wainwright very intimately during an evening out.
The intimate gesture sparked a lot of rumors in the Hollywood gossip columns. Timberlake openly admitted that his display of affection towards his co-star was lacking in judgment and consideration.
The 40-year-old singer-actor affirmed that there was nothing unusual happening between him and his co-star. At the time, he was working on the movie “Palmer” with Wainwright. Timberlake admitted he had been drinking too much and regretted his actions as they led to speculation and gossip.
He also publicly apologized to his wife in a social media post at that time: “I displayed a strong lapse in judgment – but let me be clear – nothing happened between me and my co-star. I drank way too much that night and I regret my behavior. I should have known better. This is not the example I want to set for my son.”
“I apologize to my amazing wife and family for putting them through such an embarrassing situation, and I am focused on being the best husband and father I can be.”
