In a result not many would have expected, lucky loser Luca Nardi has stunned World No. 1 Novak Djokovic. Playing in the third round of the ongoing 2024 Indian Wells Masters, Nardi has registered his biggest-ever career win in terms of ranking.
Many expected it to be a routine win for Nole, who returned to the tennis paradise for the first time since 2019. But Nardi shot down the hopes immediately as he clinched the first set, 6-4. The second set started with a bit of controversy that fueled Nole.
The Serb quickly bounced back to win the second set and take the game to the decider. But despite the setback in the second set, the 20-year-old kept on fighting and kept the pressure on. He earned a crucial break in the third set to make it 4-2. He held on to his serve and served for the match at 5-3.
Knowing the killer instinct of Novak Djokovic, the Italian didn’t allow any chance for the Serb to make a comeback and ended the match on his serve. He knocked out Djokovic 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
Novak Djokovic suffers worst defeat in a long time
With Nardi currently ranked 123rd in the world, it is one of the worst defeats of Djokovic in a long time. With a gap of more than 122 places between the two, no one would have thought this result would be possible.

But the young Italian has done the unthinkable. Djokovic will now have enough time to get back on the drawing board and get ready for next week’s Miami Masters.
