Serbian tennis ace Novak Djokovic is making the most of his time in the United States. As there were still a few hours left for the Indian Wells kickoff, Djokovic went to watch the match between the Denver Nuggets and the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Serbian then also met and congratulated compatriot Nikola Jokic who played a big role in the Nuggets’ win over the Lakers.
As Jokic led the charge for his team with 35 points, Novak Djokovic looked elated as he congratulated the Serbian basketball star. The two also hugged each other and shared a laugh after the game was done and dusted.
Notably, Djokovic and Jokic admire each other and share a great bond. This mutual respect was on display when the Serbian tennis star went to cheer for the Denver Nuggets and Jokic. After the win, Nikola Jokic came to the sidelines where Djokovic was waiting for him. The two athletes then shared a hug.
The video clip of this brief meeting was shared by Denver Nuggets on X who also wrote a cheeky caption.
Notably, Novak Djokovic is also nicknamed ‘Joker’ and the Serbian is referred to by this nickname across the globe. So, it was interesting to see two ‘Jokers’ meeting.
Coming to the match between the Nuggets and Lakers, Jokic’s team comfortably beat Lebron James‘ Lakers on a night when the American basketball star achieved a monumental feat by becoming the first player in NBA history to surpass the 40,000-points mark.
Novak Djokovic’s love for basketball
Novak Djokovic went to watch the match between Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers not just because his compatriot was playing but his love for the sport. The 24-time Grand Slam champion has expressed his love for basketball time and again.
At a recent event in Los Angeles, Djokovic named basketball as his favorite teen sport. Not just that, the Serbian is known for his bond with basketball legend late Kobe Bryant. The two athletes shared a great mutual bond.
While Bryant hailed Djokovic for his commitment to the sport, the Serbian never lets go of a chance to show his love and respect for the American. A recent example was seen when Djokovic sported a ‘#24 Mamba Forever’ t-shirt after his US Open title win last year.
