Adam Levine of Maroon 5 has found himself in controversy not only for personal allegations but also for his comments on various music genres, which some believe he isn’t well-versed in.
Back in 2018, in an interview with Variety, Levine shared his thoughts on rock music and its relevance. He mentioned that Maroon 5 has always been influenced by hip-hop, R&B, and other rhythmic genres since their first album.
He said, “Rock music is seemingly missing. If it’s around, I haven’t been included. All the groundbreaking stuff is happening in hip-hop. That’s where the real, raw, and avant-garde music is, which is why people gravitate towards it.”
Corey Taylor of Slipknot wasn’t pleased with Levine’s view on rock. He fired back on Twitter, suggesting that just because Levine’s song celebrates having ‘Moves Like Jagger’, it doesn’t mean he understands or embodies the essence of rock. Taylor advised him to stick to his show, ‘The Voice’.
Adding to the discussion, Levine later expressed his sentiments about the declining prominence of bands. He reminisced about the time when MAROON 5’s debut album was released and bands were more prevalent.
He lamented the decreased visibility of bands, attributing it in part to shows like ‘The Voice’. He wished for a resurgence of bands in mainstream pop culture.
Furthermore, in a recent chat with Alyson Rosef, Levine commented on the typical fans of metal music. When Rosef mentioned her preference for metal, Levine’s response was allegedly, “Said no attractive women ever, except you.” The conversation screenshots are available for reference.
