RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Andrew Hypes, a Richmond-based DJ and producer, will be heading on a world tour with Grammy award-winning singer Justin Timberlake.

This opportunity comes after Hypes got the chance to DJ for a couple of free one-night-only Timberlake shows including one in Memphis and New York City.

Timberlake debuted his new song “Selfish” before it was released at the Memphis show and Hypes got to be a part of the excitement as he played the track for the crowd of fans.

“To be involved with somebody to that magnitude and being from Virginia, um, it means a lot, you know? Especially being from where I’m from,” Hypes said about the experience.

Hypes even got the chance to be a part of Timberlake’s NPR Tiny Desk performance that will be released on March 15, the same day Timberlake releases his new album ‘Everything I Thought It Was.”

Hypes will be heading across the country and world soon, but his journey into the music industry started in Virginia. The Waynesboro native has been making music for over 15 years. He spent his childhood watching his father play the drums and listening to different genres of music including hip-hop, funk, rock, pop, and soul.

His talent has brought him many opportunities like DJing for Christina Aguilera’s birthday and working on music with Shaquille O’Neal. He’s also opened for artists like Travis Scott, Pusha-T and Lil Dicky and produced music for Grammy award-winning artists Lecrae, French Montana and Mad Skillz.

Timberlake’s “Forget Tomorrow” tour with Hypes kicks off on April 29 in Vancouver. The tour will make a stop in Washington D.C. at the Capital One Arena on Oct. 13.
