Recently, her former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, revealed how he helped her overcome that weakness.

Mouratoglou is a legendary French coach and has long been associated with Williams. He often drops coaching videos on his official Instagram handle. In one such video, he pointed out the big mistake Williams made and how she overcame it.

Further, he went on to add, “Because if you hit flat like this, you feel very risky. Subconsciously, you think, if I do this, there will be more margin. She corrected it. And after she was like this. She was using her hand more. So she had a bit of spin all the time. And then she is consistent and powerful.” In the caption, he also wrote, “Do you also have this bad habit when you hit a forehand?”

Mouratoglou played an instrumental role in Williams’ career, helping her win some of the biggest titles. Their partnership ended in 2022 when Williams was suffering from injuries just before her retirement. While this is one of the rare occasions that Mouratoglou has pointed out a fault in Williams’ game, he has often praised her for her illustrious career.

He said, ”I think the Williams sisters have inspired a lot of African Americans and Black people in general. Before them, very few people of color have been at the top of the game in that sport.”
