The Voice: Chance The Rapper tells four-chair turn Mafe she should pick John Legend to be her coach

Chance The Rapper surprisingly suggested to four-chair turn Mafe that she should pick John Legend to be her coach on Tuesday’s episode of The Voice on NBC.

The 30-year-old rapper was the first to turn his red chair for Venezuela native Mafe, 22, who lives in Miami, as she performed Bésame Mucho in Spanish during the Blind Auditions.

John, 45, also turned quickly followed by Reba McEntire, 68, and new season 25 coaches Dan + Shay.

‘That was such a beautiful performance, your vocal talent is extreme and all your ranges are so fluid,’ Chance said after Mafe received a standing ovation from all the coaches.

‘Your vocal touched my heart and soul,’ Reba said. ‘I think you’re a beautiful woman with a beautiful ability to touch people’s hearts, and I would love to have you on Team Reba.’

Dan + Shay also lobbied for Mafe with Dan Smyers, 36, calling her ‘one of the greatest singers I’ve ever heard in my life.’

‘I’ve collaborated with quite a few Spanish artists – Sebastián Yatra and Juanes – and I just feel like we could have a lot of fun working on music together,’ John told her. ‘So, I would love to have you on Team Leyenda.’

Chance then encouraged Mafe to go with John.

‘I really, really, really want you on my team, but I think you would do exceptionally well if you were on John’s team. I’m just being honest,’ Chance said.

‘Is this reverse psychology?,’ Shay Mooney, 32, wondered.

John said that he agreed with Chance and Mafe decided to join Team Legend.

‘I don’t know what to do with this Chance strategy right now,’ John admitted.

‘I kind of got John in my back pocket now. It’s a long game,’ Chance told the camera.

Rob Cole, 32, of Pembroke, North Carolina, performed a country song, but none of the coaches turned around.

Mafe ended the show with her stellar rendition of Bésame Mucho, which was written in 1932 by Mexican songwriter Consuelo Velázquez.

Her parents looked on proudly as Mafe performed and were thrilled when all the coaches turned their chairs.

Mafe said when she was 15 that her father made the decision to move to the US becase it was dangerous in Venezuela with robberies and kidnappings.

The family moved to Miami and started over from scratch.

Mafe said it was overwhelming moving to a new country, but she joined a choir and ‘music was something that definitely helped.’

The Voice will return on Monday on NBC as the Blind Auditions continue.
