The Cowboys’ owner believes Parsons’ is at a relative disadvantage owing to the manner in which the holding rules are structured in the NFL.
The Dallas Cowboys‘ loss to the Miami Dolphins on Christmas Day was not without controversy. America’s team contended that the officiating was not up to par and that there were many penalties handed to them despite having done nothing wrong.
Micah Parsons, the team’s linebacker, was critical of the officials for having handed him a questionable roughing the passer call during a critical juncture of the game.
Owner and general manager of the Cowboys, Jerry Jones, stepped up and came to the defense of hisstar,r who went on a rant regarding the roughing the passer call by posting pictures of the “mind-blowing” penalty from multiple angles to prove that it was not a penalty.
They won’t call a holding penalty in a certain range of holding, usually, if they don’t think the player would’ve gotten to the quarterback to begin with. That doesn’t work for Parsons because he’s about to get there almost all the time. Anything that just limits him should be a hold.”
Jones said via 105.3 The Fan.
Jerry Jones essentially said the rules have to be different for Micah Parsons because he has an elite level of talent that the league has never seen before. Because Parsons can make it to the quarterback almost always, he has to bear the brunt of dealing with questionable holding calls.
Jerry Jones believes the NFL’s rules against holding limit Micah Parsons
Micah Parsons did not hold his feelings back after the loss to the Dolphins.
It’s mind-blowing, the things that are getting called, the positions we get put in. We just got to learn to fight the adversity and know a lot of it is BS.
He said
The potential Defensive Player of the Year candidate has been vocal on numerous occasions that America’s team has to deal with a lot of adversity just because of the star on their helmet.

Jerry Jones’ argument that anything that limits Parsons should constitute a hold would make the job of the referees harder. In the Cowboys’ dominant victory against the Eagles, there was a blatant holding call missed by the referees on Parsons by tight end Dallas Goedert. The tight end practically held on to Parsons’ jersey for 2 to 3 seconds, but the referees missed it.
Bad and questionable calls have remained prevalent throughout the league this season. There have not been games without one or more controversial calls. Following this season, the NFL has to figure out a way to hold its officials more accountable for their actions.
