Dak Prescott threw a record 15 interceptions last season and is determined not to repeat his mistakes in the 2023/24 season.
Dak Prescott is all geared up and ready to make it count in the new NFL season, starting a couple of months later. The Dallas Cowboys quarterback has been the subject of innumerable stories during the offseason so far, with many doubting his position as the No.1 play-caller at the franchise.
Prescott endured his worst personal season in 2022/23 despite leading the Cowboys to a playoff finish, where they fell short against the San Francisco 49ers by a 19-12 margin. The 29-year-old quarterback produced a league and career-high 15 interceptions throughout the season, out of which two came against the 49ers in the all-important divisional playoff game.
However, ahead of the new season, Dak Prescott is confident that he will return to his best form. He has vowed to cut back his league interception count to half of what he recorded last season. He boldly declared, “I won’t have 10 interceptions this year.”
“We are a talking point,” Prescott said at his youth football camp earlier in July, as reported by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “As you find something to talk about, that’s the first thing to go to.”

Prescott took the blame for his unwanted interception count in 2022/23 on himself, although few of them could have been due to the Cowboys’ wide receivers’ inability to catch passes. “I know who I am, and you can go back and take away half of those off drops,” Prescott said. “I’m not saying it’s on the receiver, but if you cut that in half then we start talking about those. Nobody is talking about it.”
Prescott’s underwhelming performances have raised serious questions about him being handed the starting quarterback spot in the upcoming season. However, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and head coach Mike McCarthy have maintained their faith in the 29-year-old to lead the franchise to their first Super Bowl title since 1995.
Dak Prescott suffered a thumb injury during their first regular season game last year, which sidelined him for quite some time. He returned to the Cowboys setup in Week-7 but his inconsistency was on show throughout the season. His struggles became all the more evident during their playoff defeat against the 49ers as the Cowboys’ offense suffered a complete shutdown.
The Cowboys will also hope for a shift in fortunes in their offensive plays, with Mike McCarthy himself taking on the role of the offensive coordinator this season after Kellen Moore joined the Los Angeles Chargers.
