Amidst constant criticism, the Cowboys owner Jerry Jones believes Prescott will lead the team to the Super Bowl this season.
Since last weekend’s game between the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers, there have been several debates on who to blame for the Cowboys’ offense. While many put their blame on the coach Mike McCarthy for losing Kellen Moore, many find quarterback Dak Prescott to blame.
While speaking on the matter, Shannon Sharpe, promptly known as one of the most dangerous offensive weapons in the NFL, on ESPN’s First Take, solely blamed the 30-year-old quarterback for the Cowboys’ current position. In Sharpe’s opinion, the biggest problem for the Cowboys is Prescott.
“In the big games when you need him the most, he comes up the smallest. At some point of time, we got to have put the blame at his feet and say okay you know what Dak, we’re paying you extra amount of dollars, you’re supposed to perform,” he said, claiming that, in recent years, Prescott has proved that he doesn’t work well under the pressure of big games as well as big moments.
Sharpe has been fixated on this argument since the Cowboys’ brutal 42-10 loss against the 49ers.
“Three consecutive picks back to back to back, that’s not good enough, and in the big moments when your players, your Big Time player, your high-value players, that’s the time they’re supposed to shine the brightest. And in these moments when Dak shines the least. That’s unacceptable,” Sharpe added further.

The former American football tight end believes that the Cowboys treat Prescott like an elite quarterback, in terms of position and compensation. Therefore, it’s his role to take his team to higher success growth, rather than simply winning a record.
Despite being labeled as “the biggest problem” for the Cowboys, team owner Jerry Jones has immense faith in Prescott, as they prepare for the upcoming match against Los Angeles Chargers, on Monday. Jones believes Prescott is a “quarterback that can get us to the Super Bowl, and that’s the way that’s gonna be.”
After the loss against the 49ers, the quarterback stated that the team appreciates the 49ers’ performance, but that wouldn’t shake their confidence in any manner. The bottom line is it doesn’t matter if Prescott proved Sharpe wrong. What matters is taking the Cowboys to the success height they deserve.
Dak Prescott’s struggle to deliver on his $160 million contract
This year marked Dak Prescott’s 8th season with the Cowboys, to win back the Super Bowl trophy. However, so far, this season is one of the most frustrating seasons for the Cowboys. In 2021, he signed a four-year $160 million deal with the Cowboys and his massive cap number may appear as a huge issue, in the final year of the deal.

The quarterback Prescott led the team to the playoffs last season, with a record of throwing 2,860 yards, and 23 touchdowns, and tied the total interceptions of 15, in a single campaign. As a whole, Prescott has started 97 games for the Cowboys and has won two playoff games. Selected in the 2016 NFL draft, the quarterback is counted among the top ten highest-paid players of 2023.
