Megan Thee Stallion has settled a three-year legal war with her former record label nearly a week after she revealed that she is funding her own career.
The 28-year-old Texas rapper is now a free agent as she and record label 1501 Certified Entertainment have finally settled after a bitter legal war.
Billboard reported on Thursday that the Hot Girl Summer rapper had come to terms with the record company fronted by former MLB player Carl Crawford as they ‘mutually reached a confidential settlement to resolve their legal differences.’
Under the deal, Megan and the record company will ‘amicably part ways.’
1501 Certified Entertainment released a statement to the publication which read: ‘Both Megan and 1501 are pleased to put this matter behind them and move forward with the next chapter of their respective businesses.’
The former Los Angeles Dodgers player Crawford say he and his company ‘wish Megan the very best in her life and career.’
The specific terms of the deal including if there was any exchange of money have been kept under wraps.
Last week, the rapper revealed that she is currently working without the support of a record label during an Instagram Live where she also blasted 1501 Certified Entertainment.
The rapper opened up about her experience as an independent artist and stated that she was also looking forward to her future as a musician.
The Grammy winner, who recently shared a nude photo to promote her upcoming work, also revealed that she currently has to fund her future projects without outside support.
‘I’m so excited to be doing something for the first time independent since it was just me and my mama. So excited cause it’s really just me this go around until we sign to a new label,’ she said.
The hitmaker, born Megan Jovon Ruth Pete, also remarked: ‘We’re doing everything funded straight out of Megan Thee Stallion’s pockets. So, the budget is coming from me.’
She added: ‘Motherf***ing hot girl productions. We in my pockets, hotties, so let’s do our big one!’
Megan went on to state that she was comfortable with working as an independent artist for the time being.
The WAP rapper remarked that she was not looking to ‘sign to a new label right now because I just want to do it myself.’
The hitmaker also spoke about her past conflicts with her former label, 1501 Certified Entertainment, and accused the company of not supporting the release of her second record.
Megan recalled that 1501 Certified Entertainment’s executives ‘was like, “B****, Traumazine going to hell.”‘
The Grammy Award-winning artist signed with her former label in 2018, and she released her debut EP, Tina Snow, with the company’s assistance.
However, the performer’s relationship with the company quickly soured, and she obtained a temporary restraining order against 1501 Certified Entertainment in 2020 after they began a dispute over her contract.
The rapper claimed that her former label had blocked her from releasing music against her will.
The hitmaker filed a lawsuit last year after alleging that her 2021 compilation album, Something for Thee Hotties, actually counted as a full record, contrary to the beliefs of 1501’s executives.
Traumazine was jointly released by 1501 Certified Entertainment and 300 Entertainment in August of last year.
The album received positive reviews from critics and peaked at number four on the US Billboard 200 chart.
