Lily-Rose Depp’s Emotional Response to Dad Johnny Depp’s Triumphant Return at Cannes Film Festival

Johnny Depp’s daughter Lily-Rose Depp reacts to her father’s comeback movie, Jeanne du Barry, receiving a standing ovation at Cannes. Depp was one of the most well-respected and bankable movie stars in Hollywood before his contentious legal dispute with his ex-wife, actress Amber Heard, which resulted in domestic violence allegations from both sides.

After winning the highly-publicized defamation trial against Heard last June, Depp made one of his first public appearances at the Cannes Film Festival where his new movie Jeanne du Barry was met with a prolonged seven-minute standing ovation, sparking discussion about Depp’s attempt at a comeback.

Shortly after Johnny Depp’s Jeanne du Barry received a standing ovation, his daughter reacted to the warm reception at Cannes in an interview with ET Canada. Lily-Rose Depp, who stars in the upcoming HBO show The Idol, says she couldn’t be happier for her father and is glad they are both doing projects that they’re proud of. Read her full reaction below:

Johnny & Lily-Rose Depp’s Recent Controversies Explained

Though Johnny Depp’s standing ovation at Cannes may mark a comeback for the embroiled actor on the international stage, he remains sidelined in Hollywood due to the abuse allegations that surfaced during the highly publicized defamation trial against Heard.

Just as Johnny Depp was received warmly at Cannes, his daughter was also at the film festival in France for the premiere of her controversial new show, The Idol. Co-created by Euphoria‘s Sam Levinson, the upcoming HBO series follows Lily-Rose Depp as an aspiring pop idol who enters a complex relationship with a cult leader played by The Weeknd.

The Idol has been the subject of controversy due to its graphic sexual content and after its premiere at Cannes, it was panned by critics for the same reason.

However, despite the controversy and polarizing reviews, The Idol did receive a five-minute standing ovation in the room, mirroring the reception to Depp’s new movie.

Though Johnny and Lily-Rose Depp’s controversial new projects may have been received positively at Cannes, this may differ from American audiences and the rest of the world. The Idol premieres on June 4, though Jeanne du Barry‘s release date in the US is not yet determined.
