Marvel star Mark Ruffalo expressed his frustration with the largest companies in America on social media for reportedly evading taxes worth $300 billion. According to a study published by the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, many large American companies use loopholes and special tax breaks to pay no tax or taxes well below their 21% tax rate.

Ruffalo was not only angry with the “greedy companies”, but he also criticized the general public for ignoring this factor eating away at their scarce resources. In his tweet, Ruffalo shared that these greedy companies make Americans constantly blame each other for the economic, health, education, and social inequalities and scarcity issues. Ruffalo suggests that this tactic of the companies makes sure that the public doesn’t aim their rage at them.

Ruffalo shared that the fights over social inequalities and scarce resources are diverting attention away from the real culprits — the companies making record profits. According to the report, all 342 companies examined were profitable in the five years covered by the report. However, 109 of these companies paid zero federal income taxes and even scored $14.34 billion in federal tax rebates.

While many comments under his tweet appreciated the actor for speaking out against the issue, some people criticized the Poor Things actor’s remark. While many admitted that these greedy companies are causing some grievous scarcity issues in society, they wanted the actor to acknowledge the other issues and struggles as well.
