Bryant’s ex-Lakers teammate Shaquille O’Neal sent an emotional Kobe message after the statue was unveiled last month

AWFUL spelling mistakes have been discovered on the newly unveiled statue of Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant.

The 19-foot bronze sculpture has been standing outside Crypto.com Arena since it was presented to the public in a special ceremony on February 8.

The statue shows Bryant triumphally lifting his finger after his fabled 81-point eruption against the Toronto Raptors in 2006.

It has a triangle-shaped base, a nod to the triangle offense Kobe’s Lakers played under head coach Phil Jackson.

The base has the box score report from the legendary Laker’s iconic performance engraved on one of the three sides together with his signature.

It turns out the sheet features three typos, which don’t appear on the original document, German journalist Andre Vought found out before sharing his discovery on social media over the weekend.

Ex-Raptors point guard Jose Calderon’s last name is spelled “Calderson” while Lakers guard Von Wafer is listed as “Vom Wafer.”

And the word decision in the DNP [did not play] – Coach’s Decision designation for Wafer, Andrew Bynum, and Raptors center Aaron Williams is written as “decicion.”

Bizarrely, the same phrase appears directly above Williams’ designation — for Toronto’s Darrick Martin, who also didn’t play that night — and is spelled correctly.

The U.S. Sun has reached out to the Lakers for comment but is yet to hear back.

Meanwhile, NBA fans couldn’t believe the mistakes were overlooked.

“Damn they didn’t double-check?” one wrote on X.

“Whoever made this was lacking the mamba mentality,” another added.

“Damn, that’s horrible. Multiple ppl missed that,” a third said.

“Lakers are worth $5.9 billion and they can’t get the SPELLING right to honor the person who made them so valuable? Shameful,” one wrote.

Two other sculptures of the five-time NBA champion are expected to be unveiled in the coming months.
