Legendary former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has been warned he may never be an NFL head coach again.

Belichick is one of the best to ever do it, a nailed on Hall of Fame head coach and an eight-time Super Bowl winner, seven as head coach with the Patriots and one as defensive coordinator with the New York Giants.

But things ended badly for the veteran with the Patriots, with the two parties ‘mutually’ deciding to end their relationship after the 2023 season when the Patriots were one of the worst teams in football.

Before that came a series of perplexing staffing decisions and poor draft choices from Belichick that left the Patriots in pieces after a decade of unrivalled success during the Tom Brady days.

Belichick spoke to the Atlanta Falcons during the most recent coaching cycle, but he was left without a seat in the NFL’s version of musical chairs, failing to land a new role.

The 71-year-old is likely to want to return to head coaching, but one former NFL executive in Marc Ross has warned that may not happen.

“As far as a head coach,” Ross told TMZ Sports. “Yeah, I think this might be the end of the road for him. If he wants to take a step back and be a coordinator, that might be something down the line. We’ve seen great head coaches go be coordinators, but will he want to do that?

“That’s the situation for him. What really happened was it was Bill Belichick the name and rings and you can’t dismiss what he’s done in the league but when you’re a team and looking at all the different factors about bringing him in there, that throws a lot of things out of whack.”

Belichick is said to want to end his career as the NFL winningest coach, being a huge historian of the game. As things stand, Miami Dolphins legend Don Shula leads the way with 328 career wins, while Chicago Bears favorite George Hallas is second with 318.

Belichick is currently third on that list with 302, needing 26 more wins to end his career at the top of the list. Though, that is likely to take him at least three seasons, and at 71 years of age and without a job this coming season, he knows he is running out of time.
