Another top running back is set for the free-agent pool this offseason, with the Cincinnati Bengals reportedly expected to release Joe Mixon.

That is according to NBC Sports’ Matthew Berry.

The Bengals would save $6.1 million against their cap if they cut the star running back, which would allow them to replace him with a cheaper and possibly more explosive option.

Mixon started all 17 games for Cincinnati last season. He rushed for a total of 1,034 yards and nine touchdowns to mark the fourth season in his career in which he passed the 1,000-yard mark. His nine scores were also the most since he recorded 13 in 2021.

The 27-year-old appears to be set to join a group of big-name RBs all headed toward free agency, including Josh Jacobs, Saquon Barkley, Austin Eeler, and Derrick Henry.

He should command lots of interest around the NFL following another 1,000-yard campaign if the Bengals do sever ties.
