Ant-Man 4, Captain Marvel 3, Eternals 2 reportedly shelved by Marvel Studios News

Marvel Studios is reportedly no longer moving forward with three big MCU franchises due to Disney’s cost-cutting measures.

According to industry insider Daniel Richtman (via X) the highly anticipated sequels to EternalsAnt-Man, and Captain Marvel reportedly won’t be hitting the big screens at all.

Marvel Studios is shifting gears towards safer bets for their future projects.

This means that plans for Eternals 2, which were reportedly in the works at Marvel, are currently on hold.

Disney CEO Bob Iger is sceptical about its potential success and doubts its box office performance.

Additionally, it’s unlikely that Ant-Man 4 and Captain Marvel 3 will see the light of day, given the lacklustre box office results of their predecessors, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels.

It’s no secret that recent Marvel movies have struggled at the box office.

The most recent Marvel outing The Marvels grossed merely $206 million worldwide against its hefty $274.8 million production budget.

It marked the worst opening weekend in MCU history and holds the unfortunate record for the lowest-grossing film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Given these financial setbacks, it’s logical to assume that Marvel Studios won’t be pursuing another Captain Marvel movie.

Similarly, Ant-Man 3 didn’t meet expectations at the box office.

While its performance surpassed Shazam! Fury of the Gods,“ it failed to match its predecessors’ success, signalling caution for Marvel Studios regarding the franchise’s future. So, the chances of Ant-Man 4 materializing seem slim.

Eternals, which introduced a slew of new superheroes like Thena (Angelina Jolie), Sersi (Gemma Chan), Ikaris (Richard Madden), Black Knight (Kit Harington), Ajak (Salma Hayek), Gilgamesh (Ma Dong-seok), Druig (Barry Keoghan), Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani), and Eros (Harry Styles), was Marvel Studios’ biggest film since The Avengers.

There was a lot of hype surrounding the film, but despite its success at the box office, Eternals didn’t quite hit the mark with critics, making it one of the least well-received MCU movies.

It is important to note that these films have not been officially scrapped by Marvel Studios at this point.

These are merely speculations and must be taken with a grain of salt.

Marvel Studios’ next movie Deadpool & Wolverine is set to hit theaters on July 26, 2024.
