With the popularity of women’s college basketball increasing exponentially, NBA star Steph Curry has swooped in to seal a deal for a lucrative multi-year partnership with an emerging talent

Emerging South Carolina women’s basketball talent MiLaysia Fulwiley has become the first college athlete to partner directly with NBA star Stephen Curry’s brand.

Previously, UConn shooting guard Azzi Fudd signed the first NIL deal of its kind with an NBA star, when she signed with Curry’s SC30 Inc. back in 2021. However, the Golden State Warriors point guard has never put pen to paper on a partnership with a women’s basketball player before now under his Curry Brand with Under Armour.

According to The Athletic, the agreement signed by Fulwiley is a “multi-year” NIL deal. Fulwiley saw her star rise following her heroics in her freshman year in South Carolina. Speaking to The State, the SEC Tournament MVP’s mom Phelliccia Mixon has claimed that the deal is for four years.

Averaging 11.8 points and 2.9 rebounds per game in her maiden campaign with the Gamecocks, Fulwiley is already being earmarked by brands as a potential partner. Ryan Drew, the GM of Curry Brand, spoke of his delight at reaching a deal with the South Carolina prodigy, saying: “We are thrilled to have MiLaysia officially join the Curry Brand family.

“MiLaysia embodies the type of athlete with whom we love to partner: she is a highly motivated, talented and community-driven young athlete who works every day to compete at the highest level. As we continue to grow and diversify the Curry Brand, we are excited to partner with her and deepen our roots in the collegiate athlete community.”

It is clear that new commercial partner Curry has been impressed with Fulwiley’s promising showings during her first season with the Gamecocks. Speaking in his role as the President of the Curry Brand, the four-time NBA champion tipped the youngster to prove a transformative figure in women’s basketball.

“When it comes to the ability to change the game for good, nobody can speak to that more than MiLaysia,” he said, as he spoke with excitement after teaming up with the starlet. “She’s changing the women’s game on the fly with how she plays and moves on the court. She has a unique style and flow to her game that I don’t think many people have seen in a long time.

“She was a part of Curry Camp, is a Team Curry alumni, and is currently playing at an Under Armour school, so there are just so many great tie-ins to the Under Armour family, and partnering with her and Curry Brand is such a special opportunity. I’m humbled that she is now a part of the family.”

Likewise, South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley was delighted for her player as she welcomed the news that she would be teaming up with Curry Brand moving forward. Waxing lyrical about the guard after her contributions to the team’s unblemished record in the regular season, she was convinced the partnership would prove fruitful.

“MiLaysia is a generational player, an artist who is expanding her understanding of how to marry all aspects of her game every day, she opined. “We are learning things from each other about how to maximize her game, and it has been incredible to work with her on that process.”

Fulwiley also spoke in glowing terms about the partnership as she looked forward to making a difference moving forward, adding: “It feels incredible to be picked to represent Curry Brand. Knowing that I can be a role model for other young girls to come out here and do exactly what I did is amazing.”
