Fox News maintains its stronghold on the ratings, outpacing competitors MSNBC and CNN by a wide margin. In 2022, Fox News achieved its third-highest viewership in cable news history during total day broadcasts.

For the seventh consecutive year, Fox secured the top spot as the leading cable network in both primetime and total day viewership, reaffirming its dominance in basic cable. Moreover, Fox News retained its status as the highest-rated cable news network for an impressive 21st consecutive year.

According to data from Nielsen/MRI Fusion, Fox News boasted the most politically varied audience in cable news, with a higher number of Democrats, Independents, and Republicans tuning in than any other network in terms of total viewership and the younger A25-54 demographic.

In its history, Fox News achieved its second-highest share of the cable news audience with 53% in total day among the 25-54 demographic. Additionally, the network captured 55% of the primetime audience in total viewership.

Suzanne Scott, the CEO of Fox News, remarked:

“Throughout 2022, from pivotal moments like America’s election night to the thriving late-night hit shows, Fox News demonstrated unparalleled excellence in delivering innovative news and opinion programming to our diverse audience, which remains the most politically varied in cable news.

I am immensely proud of our team’s remarkable accomplishments this year.”

Fox News dominated cable news, with its programs occupying the top 13 out of 15 slots in total viewership. Shows such as The Five, Tucker Carlson Tonight, Jesse Watters Primetime, Hannity, Special Report with Bret Baier, The Ingraham Angle, Gutfeld!, Outnumbered, America’s Newsroom, The Faulkner Focus, Your World with Neil Cavuto, America Reports, and The Story all excelled.

Furthermore, Fox News claimed the top 15 spots in the A25-54 demographic and held the 13 highest-rated shows in the 18-49 category.

In a groundbreaking achievement, Fox News’ ‘The Five’ shattered records. For the first time in television history, a non-primetime cable program concluded the year as the most-watched program in total viewership. Airing at 5 PM/ET, ‘The Five’ outperformed all daytime and primetime shows on CNN and MSNBC, securing the largest audience in cable news for 2022 with 3,432,000 viewers and 465,000 in the A25-54 demographic.
