Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Megan Thee Stallion, and More Revive This Retro Punk-Rock Accessory

Trendsetters turning back time.

Choker necklaces, a nod to the punk and goth styles of the 80s and 90s, made a splash on the Grammys’ red carpet Sunday evening, adorning the necks of Janelle Monet and Karol G, who scored a golden gramophone for Best Música Urbana Album.

Most notably, Taylor Swift sported a glittering choker with a watch face at the center and its hands set to midnight — a wink at her now-Grammy-winning album, “Midnights,” which has made her the first artist to earn four awards for Record of the Year.

According to wristwatch enthusiasts, Swift’s custom Lorraine Schwartz choker was crafted with a vintage Concord watch face, which the popstar wore with a cascade of jeweled necklaces, black velvet evening gloves and a white Schiaparelli gown.

The “Anti-Hero” songstress, who also took home the gold for Best Pop Vocal Album, is among a growing list of celebrities donning the bejeweled watches anywhere but their wrists (See: Megan Thee Stallion’s numerous ring watches or Olivia Rodrigo’s timepiece skirt and garter.)

When attending last year’s Louis Vuitton men’s show, Rihanna wore a jewel-encrusted custom Jacob & Co clock choker worth an estimated $700,000 and featured 30 carats of white diamonds.

In October, podcast host and content creator Emma Chamberlain exuded preppy chic at Miu Miu’s Paris Fashion Week runway while wearing a micro watch face on a black band around her neck, pairing it with specs, a blue Oxford, loafers and a plaid, over-sized blazer.

Swift’s style choices, however, were decoded by fans as an assumed nod to her highly anticipated release of “Reputation (Taylor’s Version)” — but the “Cruel Summer” crooner had other plans.

Upon receiving the Grammy for pop vocal album, the 34-year-old pop sensation and self-proclaimed “Mastermind” revealed that she will be releasing a brand new album titled “The Tortured Poet’s Department” on April 19, a “secret,” she said, that she had successfully kept for two years.

The announcement sent ripples through the chronically online Swiftie community, as conspiracy theories regarding Swift’s cryptic titling and branding began to snowball on social media.
