Gary Goldsmith has revealed he hates when Kate Middleton is referred to as ‘common’ and says her mother was a multi-millionaire by 30.

The businessman, 59, who is the uncle of the Princess of Wales, 42, is taking part in the current series of Celebrity Big Brother.

On Wednesday’s episode, Gary was chatting about his family with TV presenter Fern Britton when the topic of his family came up.

Although they had a humble upbringing, Gary said: ‘We were both multi’s [millionaires] by 30,’ referring to him and his sister Carole.

‘Really?’ Fern said, sounding shocked. Gary nodded and said they earned their wealth from a variety of sources.

He then added: ‘I get a bit narky when they say Kate’s a commoner. There’s nothing common about their family.’

‘Look at all those posh people who are skint,’ Fern said.

‘With big houses,’ Gary added.

Carole founded the company Party Pieces in 1987 which sold party supplies and decorations by mail order.

Her husband Michael, Kate’s father, quit his job with British Airways to help her with the company two years later. Party Pieces was sold in 2023 after it went into administration.

Elsewhere in the episode, Sharon Osbourne took a swipe at Gary as she questioned his true intentions for being in the house.

Gary was one of three housemates in the ‘danger zone’ and risked being picked by Sharon, 71, as one of the star’s up for elimination.

Gary, David Potts and Zeze Millz were all given a chance to explain why they should be kept in the house as they each beg her to keep them in.

'Really?' Fern said, sounding shocked. Gary nodded and said they earned their wealth from a variety of sources

Gary admitted he wants the chance to change the public’s perception of him, after always being known as the ‘black sheep’ of the family

The businessman admitted he wants the chance to change the public’s perception of him, after always being known as the ‘black sheep’ of the family.

Sharon said: ‘So, we’re going to have a nice little chat Gary. Tell me why did you accept the offer to come into the house?’

Gary said: ‘It does bother me what the public perception of me is. The black sheep of the family. I’m a normal bloke. It just so happens that my niece married Will.’

The businessman then insisted that he has no interest in being a celebrity himself.

He said: ‘If I could show people I’m not that person. I’ve really put myself out there because this isn’t my world. Ultimately, I’m not a celebrity. I don’t want to be a celebrity, I don’t want to go down that path.

But Sharon was instantly sceptical of this claim and replied: ‘Why don’t I believe you when you say that?’
