If Monday proved  to be an auspicious start, Tuesday was a belated baptism of fire as Cat Deeley faced the wrath of disgruntled This Morning viewers.

Deeley, drafted into fill Holly Willoughby’s polished stiletto heels, made her second consecutive appearance as the show’s official full time presenter alongside co-host Ben Shephard.

But her habit of interrupting guests – among them celebrity chef John Torode – quickly irked viewers, with many airing their grievances on social media.

Fans of the show were especially annoyed by Deeley, 47, and Shephard, 49, regularly talking over each other as they navigated their way through the show’s various segments.

Highlighting her performance as Torode – a show regular – talked them through his ultimate Thai green curry, one unimpressed viewer wrote: ‘Is this the Cat Deeley show? She never stops making a noise!’

NOT the Ben Shepherd Show or the Cat Deeley Show. STOP talking over each other and stop interrupting the guests. OMG – what a noise!’

While a third ranted: ‘Cat Deeley needs to listen more instead of talking all the time. John Torode was trying to explain a recipe, but she kept interrupting I’m much prefer Ben Shepherd.

‘I may have to turn off This Morning now she is on there all the time. She is too over the top.’

Another joked: ‘Will someone take Cat Deeley outside and give her a calming shot or an anaesthetic.’

The pair were also critiqued after interviewing Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond, who regularly host the show on Fridays.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one wrote: ‘I’ve just watched Dermot O’Leary being interviewed on ‘This Morning’ by Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard.

‘In my opinion, Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond should have got the job full-time!’

Another added: ‘Wow!! I stopped watching because of Alison constantly interrupting all the guests, but especially the cooks, so that they don’t get to explain everything they’re doing and end up rushed and running out of time.’

Others were more charitable with their opinions, with one commenting: ‘They’re professional. It’s what it’s needed for some time.’

While a second wrote: ‘It was an absolute joy to watch you both today …fabulous indeed.’

A third added: ‘You two are brilliant!! Two of my fav ever presenters.’

The presenter made her first appearance as the permanent host of the ITV show alongside Shephard on Monday.

But while they received a warm reception from viewers, Cat did make an amusing mishap while reading out the number for a phone-in, missing out a zero.

Shephard corrected her, noting that the number started with 08000 rather than 0800, with Deeley admitting she previously had the number for ChildLine in her head.

‘That’s where I’m getting it from,’ she said.

While many reacted favourably to Deeley and Shephard themselves, they were unimpressed that the show had remained largely unchanged.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one disappointed viewer summed up: ‘Big new era for #ThisMorning starts today… AAAAAND…they’ve not changed anything on the set, the items are all the same and it feels like Ben & Cat are just the latest on the conveyer belt of presenters rather than it feeling like a fresh start, which it arguably should.’

Another added: ‘#ThisMorning ..same old set, theme tune, graphics and segments. Even same opening titles – couldn’t even be bothered to add Ben and Cat in like the old previous hosts.

‘This was ITVs chance to rejuvenate the program and move on from the past – and they missed it.’;

A third wrote: ‘9.58am: Pop on ITV1 to watch new #ThisMorning hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley’s start to the show. 10.03am: Now I’ve watched it I’ve turned it off and back on with watching Young Royals on Netflix. Love Cat & Ben, but I think This Morning just feels dated to me tbh!’

Discussing the new hosts, others added: ‘Might’ve had the wrong first impression about Ben and Cat. Give me another 2 hours but they seem to be doing pretty well.’

While another wrote: ‘I really like Cat and Ben and I’m sure they’ll be great as the new permanent presenters. Just relieved to finally have an end to all the chopping and changing, fingers crossed there’s some stability at last. Now just get them on the opening titles!’
