A James Bond spinoff television series meant that some Daniel Craig-era characters might get more screen time, but this recent update isn’t promising.
SUMMARY
The chance of a James Bond TV spinoff featuring characters like Nomi and Paloma from the Daniel Craig era is now unlikely, as the Bond team is focusing solely on feature films.
Without the TV spinoff, Nomi and Paloma will likely never appear on-screen again, leaving audiences wanting more of these strong female characters.
Even if there is a potential Bond 26, Nomi and Paloma cannot return to the franchise as it is undergoing a total reboot, with new actors, stories, and characters, leaving them no chances to reappear.
Daniel Craig has made a name for himself in the James Bond franchise since 2006, and with rumors flying about a Daniel Craig-era James Bond TV spinoff, the chance of seeing more of his era’s best characters seemed high, but a recent update changed everything.
Daniel Craig is just the most recent iteration of the iconic British Secret Intelligence Service Agent. The character, which was created by Ian Fleming in 1954, has been portrayed in film by Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, and Pierce Brosnan. Now, the Bond franchise is looking to start all over again.
Although hopes were high for a James Bond television series firmly rooted in Daniel Craig’s 007 era, the chances of that have gone down significantly after this update from Bond director, Barbara Broccoli. In an interview with The Guardian, Broccoli confirmed that the Bond team is staying away from television.
She said, “Our focus is making the feature films. When we get going on a Bond movie it takes our full attention for three or four years so that’s our focus.” Even then, Broccoli also mentioned that the next iteration of James Bond hasn’t even begun development, meaning that the franchise has many years before the next film is released.
No James Bond TV Spinoffs Is Bad For Nomi & Paloma
One particularly disappointing aspect of the James Bond TV spinoff not happening is that characters from the Daniel Craig era like Nomi and Paloma will likely never appear on-screen again.
In 2021, Daniel Craig portrayed Bond for the last time in No Time To Die, and without Craig’s Bond, there is really no reason to bring back his characters, no matter how lovable they are.
Nomi is a Black-Ops operative that takes on Bond’s 007 moniker after his retirement in No Time To Die, acting as a sort of competition to him before becoming his ally. Meanwhile, Paloma is an intelligence operative that is also an ally to James Bond.
Although Daniel Craig’s Bond dies at the end of No Time To Die, a potential TV spinoff was in high demand simply because of characters like Nomi and Paloma.
The James Bond franchise isn’t known for its strong female characters, so the introduction of these women was quite exciting. But, then again, the fact that they only appeared in No Time To Die left audiences wanting much more.
With a television spinoff, perhaps Nomi could have developed into a female James Bond, or at the very least, these women would have had more time to build their characters outside of being Bond’s allies.
Why Nomi & Paloma Can’t Return In Bond 26
The sad truth is that Nomi and Paloma cannot return to the James Bond franchise without this television spinoff.
Although more James Bond movies are coming out, a la Bond 26, it has essentially been confirmed to be a total reboot of the franchise, as has been common for decades now.
If the films are starting all over again, then it wouldn’t make sense to include characters from No Time To Die. A new Bond means new actors, new stories, and new characters. That leaves Nomi and Paloma with no chances to reappear.
This is especially true considering that Daniel Craig’s Bond died in No Time To Die. Perhaps if he had lived, there could have been some sort of cameo, some passing of the torch, however even that seems like a stretch.
Ultimately, the James Bond franchise cannot retcon itself by mixing up its Bonds or eras in a film, therefore, Nomi and Paloma have to remain uncharted territory to maintain the integrity of the new era.
This makes sense, but also, is highly disappointing for those who are craving more of the Daniel Craig-era characters.
Can Nomi & Paloma Appear In James Bond Spinoff Movies?
One final possibility to bring back Nomi and Paloma is a James Bond spinoff movie. Similar to the rumored television series, if the franchise branched out into spinoff films, following characters other than James Bond, then Nomi and Paloma could definitely be candidates for reappearing in the franchise.
Unfortunately though, this doesn’t seem likely to happen any time soon. Broccoli’s reason for staying away from television would probably be the same for spinoff movies as well.
At this point, the James Bond franchise is focused on Bond and only Bond. Sadly, this means that Nomi and Paloma’s time on-screen has been cut tragically and permanently short.
