Following his first action movie lead in Monkey Man, James Bond fans think they’ve found the next 007 in Dev Patel.
Universal Pictures/Metro-Goldwyn-MayerSUMMARY
James Bond fans are calling for Monkey Man star Dev Patel to be the next 007.
Fans highlight his action chops and directorial skills showcased in Monkey Man .
While Bond rumors swirl, audiences can judge Patel’s potential in Monkey Man as it hits theaters next month.
Academy Award nominee Dev Patel is transformed into an action hero in this year’s Monkey Man, and many are now calling for the actor to be the next James Bond.
Monkey Man finds Patel not only in the lead on screen but also taking the lead behind the camera as he makes his directorial debut with this tale of corruption and revenge.
And, now that he has demonstrated his particular set of skills, Bond fans want him as the next 007 following Daniel Craig’s departure.
Known for roles across a whole host of genres in the likes of Slumdog Millionaire, Lion, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Chappie, Hotel Mumbai, Skins, The Green Knight, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, and more, Dev Patel evidently has the range to bring something interesting to the role of James Bond.
Now that he has seriously shown off his affinity for action (as well as being accomplished in Taekwondo in real life), and being 33 years old, Patel seemingly has all the ingredients needed to make the perfect 007 when the reboot comes. And 007 fans have taken notice.
Others, however, feel that Patel has now shown what he can achieve behind the camera, as well as spawning a new action franchise with Monkey Man. Thus, he doesn’t need James Bond.
Following the end of Daniel Craig’s 007 era in 2021’s No Time to Die, we currently have no idea who will be cast as the next James Bond.
Rumors suggest that it could be anyone from Henry Cavill, to Regé-Jean Page, to Aaron Taylor-Johnson, but so far the updates from longtime producer Barbara Broccoli have yielded little information.
“There’s nothing I can tell you about the next Bond film…There’s nothing. Nothing is happening yet,” she said last month.
Action Movie Monkey Man Hits Theaters Next Month
While we await further James Bond news, audiences can check out how well-suited Dev Patel could be for the role in Monkey Man, which is due to hit theaters next month.
Directed by Dev Patel in his feature directorial debut, and from a screenplay he co-wrote with Paul Angunawela and John Collee, Monkey Man also stars Sharlto Copley, Pitobash, Sobhita Dhulipala, Sikandar Kher, Vipin Sharma, Ashwini Kalsekar, Adithi Kalkunte and Makarand Deshpande.
Dev Patel’s action movie, Monkey Man, has been met with critical acclaim and favorable comparisons following its debut.
You can check out the official synopsis for Monkey Man below.
“Inspired by the legend of Hanuman, an icon embodying strength and courage, Monkey Man stars Dev Patel as Kid, an anonymous young man who ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he is beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash.
After years of suppressed rage, Kid discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite.
As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him.”
