No Time to Die’s new 007 Lashana Lynch responds to rumors suggesting she is destined to take over from Daniel Craig as the next James Bond lead.
SUMMARY
Lashana Lynch, who played Nomi in No Time to Die, has not been approached about a potential return to the James Bond franchise.
Lynch questions whether the fandom is ready for a female-led movie in the James Bond franchise.
No Time to Die star Lashana Lynch weighs in on speculation that she will become the next James Bond lead following Daniel Craig’s departure.
Lynch, who played the MI6 agent Nomi, caused a stir among the James Bond fandom when it was revealed her character was assigned the 007 code name in No Time to Die following Bond’s retirement from the British Secret Service.
While Lynch’s character would later insist on giving it back to Bond, the death of Craig’s character sparked rumors that instead of recasting the role, the next movie could potentially follow her 007 instead.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight at the London premiere of Bob Marley: One Love, Lynch was quizzed about her potential return to the James Bond franchise and whether she is likely to become the next lead star.
Questioning whether the fandom is ready to see a female-led movie, Lynch revealed that she was only signed to appear in one movie and has not been approached about a potential return. Check out her comments below:
Do you think people really want that? Do you think people are ready for that? I signed up for one movie. I did one, I literally don’t know anything about the next one. I’ve not had a conversation. So yeah… It’s in their hands. It’s in the franchise’s hands.
The Daniel Craig 007 era is ending with the release of No Time to Die, but what comes next? Here’s everything that’s been revealed about Bond 26.
Why Bond 26 Has The Hardest Task Of Any James Bond Movie
Spanning a total of 25 official movies across six decades, the James Bond franchise continues to stand as one of cinema’s most beloved and celebrated properties. Setting the benchmark for countless other spy movies, the prospect of any actor taking on the 007 code name comes with enormous expectations.
Yet while every actor to brandish Bond’s license to kill since Sean Connery has faced inevitable comparisons with their predecessors, whoever is selected as the next Bond will likely have to face the most daunting task yet.
While there are 25 official James Bond movies produced by Eon Productions, the character also appeared in the 1967 parody version of Casino Royale played by David Niven and 1983’s Never Say Never Again featuring Connery’s return to the role.
Faced with having to juggle competing calls to both reinvent the property for modern times while simultaneously paying homage to the franchise’s established traditions, the next Bond movie almost seems destined to disappoint some portion of the fandom regardless of who is cast as the new lead.
Moreover, with No Time to Die’s controversial ending seeing Craig’s Bond sacrifice himself, Bond 26 is also tasked with establishing a whole new continuity that will potentially form the basis for another decade of Bond adventures.
At this stage, news surrounding who will be the next actor to lead the James Bond franchise is limited to little more than rumors and baseless speculation.
While every Bond fan undoubtedly has their own favorite pick for the next 007 after No Time to Die, there is not even any solid indication when a casting decision is likely to be announced, let alone who will be tapped to step into the role.
When that announcement finally does come, however, the next Bond actor will then need to prove themselves worthy of the honor.
