Caleb Williams might be hinting that he doesn’t want to play for a certain NFL team based on some recent social media activity.
The former USC Trojans quarterback is expected to be drafted by the Chicago Bears at No. 1 next month but there have been rumors out there claiming he would prefer not to play for the NFC North outfit.
The QB’s camp has denied the claims, which Caleb also addressed during a recent interview with ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
“If I get drafted by the Bears, I’ll be excited,” he told the reporter. “If they trade the pick, and I get drafted by someone else, I’m just as excited. Speaking about Chicago, they have a talented team, a talented offense and defense. For anyone to be in that situation, I think they’d be excited.”
With the Bears now unlikely to trade their pick, the only way Caleb’s going first and taking all the money available to the No.1 overall draft pick in 2024 is by going to the Windy City. But it’s believed he’s trying to avoid such as he’s recently liked a tweet in which former NFL wide receiver Devin Hester is saying the Bears would be better off keeping Justin Fields.
While Bears fans are concerned given the possibility of Williams not wanting to play for them, GM Ryan Poles didn’t appear worried at all when he spoke at the combine. That’s probably because he knows it’s not up to the player.
“No, no concerns about that at all,” he said. “I would love to know why, if that was the case.
“Like I said I think, as a young quarterback, I’ve been around it, infrastructure is important. And I think we’ve made really good progress in terms of having really good infrastructure for whoever were to come in (drafted) or if Justin were to stay.”
On another note, it appears the Bears are having some trouble trading Fields as there’s been very little activity where he’s concerned, with most interested teams understood to want him as a backup.
Who knows? They might end up having both QBs on the roster in 2024.
