Going into the first year with Aaron Rodgers, the New York Jets had hope that the veteran quarterback could take the franchise to the promised land. One first-quarter injury would end those hopes.
Fast forward to the offseason, months before his second season, and the feeling surrounding Rodgers has changed quite a bit.
There have been rumors that Aaron Rodgers could leave his NFL career to support Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy’s Presidential candidature, according to reports presented by the Daily Mail.
Kennedy reportedly asked Rodgers and former WWE wrestler Jesse Ventura—a former Minnesota governor—to be on his ticket, according to a New York Times story published earlier this week.
The New York Jets are not happy with these reports.
The Jets brass are said to be “upset” with Rodgers.
A source told DailMail ‘Lots of the Jets coaches and players want Aaron to commit to the team and worry about winning the Super Bowl over a chance to be in the White House.
More:
‘Aaron and Robert aren’t going to win but for Aaron to consider helping run the country over playing for the team has many with the Jets all upset because you have to pick one or the other.‘Aaron can’t be campaigning through the week and then play the Dolphins the following weekend. It is ridiculous.
‘When Aaron is retired he can do whatever the hell he wants, the Jets aren’t paying him not to play, the team has already had to accept and take on his various controversial beliefs and comments and add a political career to the situation is exactly the distractions the team wants no part of at all.
‘There is only enough leash they can give and offer Aaron, and they want him to be a teammate and not a running mate.’
Rodgers and Kennedy share the same anti-COVID-19 vaccine sentiment. Back in 2021, Rodgers admitted he misled the public about being “immunized” against COVID-19, despite not getting the COVID vaccine.
Kennedy is a lawyer and environmental activist who became a leading anti-vaccine and government public health critic during the pandemic.
