BREAKING – Patrick Mahomes and Rashee Rice Recognized with Chiefs’ Team AccoladesThe Kansas City Chiefs unveiled their annual team awards on Thursday, honoring quarterback Patrick Mahomes and wide receiver Rashee Rice for their exceptional performances in the 2023 season.

Mahomes was awarded the prestigious “Derrick Thomas Award,” an accolade reserved for the Chiefs’ most valuable player. This marks Mahomes’ third reception of the honor, paying tribute to the legendary Pro Football Hall of Famer linebacker. Mahomes showcased his skills by amassing 4,183 passing yards and 27 touchdowns in 2023, leading Kansas City through an impressive postseason journey that resulted in securing a consecutive world championship title.

During the season, Rice emerged as one of Mahomes’ primary targets, earning him the esteemed “Mack Lee Hill Award.” Named in memory of the late Mack Lee Hill, a talented tailback for the Chiefs whose promising career was tragically cut short during his second season, this award celebrates Kansas City’s top rookie or first-year player.

Rice’s remarkable stats included 79 receptions for 938 yards and seven touchdowns during the regular season, followed by a notable NFL rookie-record of 26 catches in the postseason. Notably, his 15 postseason receptions resulted in crucial first downs, including a pivotal 13-yard catch on third down during overtime of Super Bowl LVIII, crucial to Kansas City’s game-winning drive.

These awards carry special significance as they were voted on by the players themselves, reflecting the collective acknowledgment and appreciation within the locker room for Mahomes and Rice’s contributions throughout the year. Both players played pivotal roles in Kansas City’s memorable 2023 season, culminating in yet another championship victory, making these individual accolades thoroughly deserved.
