Method Man Reveals Key To Staying Married 21 Years: Stay Private & Keep People Out Of Your Business

Method Man has made an even bigger transition from rapper to acting in recent years. The Wu-Tang frontman spent years on record and on our screen portraying a variety of different roles. Now he is honing in even more and developing the next phase of his career. Part of his refreshed persona is talking about his personal life and 21-year marriage.

While most people associate Method Man with his work on stoner comedies like How High and films like Soul Plane and Scary Movie, the historically silly MC has been polishing up his image as he starts to take on more serious roles. Currently starring in Power Book II: Ghost, Method Man is also stepping into the role of Supreme in the film On the Come-Up. Produced by Sanaa Lathan, the movie centers around a young lady looking to become a successful rapper. Meth recently stopped by Sherri Shephard’s show to promote it.

Sporting a white turtle neck and leather pants, Method Man has come a long way from the oversized jerseys and sneakers of his heyday. The transition has been gradual and intentional and was commemorated with a digital Essence shoot a year ago that reintroduced him to the world with the caption, “this man means business.” Taken a back by the suaver Meth, Sherri joked that she was not sure how to address him in his current look. “Method Man is what brings them to the church, but Clifford Smith is what keeps them coming back.”

Sherri recalls approaching Method Man during Essencefest to invite him on her show and called him so gracious for accepting. “I mean it,” he responded. “For me, that memory was really vague. What stood out to me was our telephone conversation. We had a great conversation about doing the show.” He elaborated that she invited him while she was still hosting the Wendy Williams Show and wanted to wait till it was her platform to join her.

Sherri made sure to shout out Meth’s sex symbol status while saying, “no disrespect to your wife, Tameka.” The crowd erupted into applause, and several women stood up. Meth says he is comfortable hearing that he looks good and admits he is ok feeling old. Sherri then asked for advice on relationships after revealing to the audience that Meth and Tameka had been together for 21 years.

“Um, don’t talk about it,” he said frankly. Meth says the more things are private and between you and your partner, the longer they will last. Tamika Smith began as her husband’s personal assistant before they got more serious. She quietly battled breast cancer out of the public eye in 2016. Method called her “one of the strongest people on the planet.” They share three children together, Sha, Rae, and Cheyenne.

As for the reason why Method Man waited till it was Sherri’s show to be a part of it, it could be due to a revelation from Wendy Williams’s film where she alleges she and him had a one-night stand. Wendy is also the one who leaked information about Tameka’s cancer diagnosis. Tameka has publicly called Williams out for constantly coming for their family.
