Despite personally playing a positive version of Superman, Jack Quaid supported Henry Cavill’s grim Kal-El.

Superman’s future looks considerably brighter as James Gunn prepares the new version of the DC Universe. Further, even Jack Quaid’s 2023 animated TV series My Adventures With Superman, featured the superhero as a heartfelt and charming one. To be specific, ever since the end of Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel era, the fan-favorite character has witnessed bright and positive days.

The grim and gritty Superman is now considered a thing of the past. With James Gunn promising to bring a more hopeful Kryptonian, Henry Cavill’s gritty version is now history. However, despite starring as the Last Son of Krypton in the PG-rated 2023 animated TV series, Jack Quaid offered his rare support to Cavill’s grim version of Kal-El. Although he preferred starring as the positive and proactive version, he has nothing against the darker versions of Superman.

Jack Quaid Speaks About His Proactive Version of Superman

The grim and gritty version of Superman was a thing of the past. Initially presented to audiences in the 1980s, the dark version of Kal-El ended with Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel era.

Now, DC is completely focused on bringing back the positive and proactive version of the fan-favorite superhero. With James Gunn working on a brighter version with his Superman reboot, even Adult Swim featured a lively version with their 2023 animation TV series.

Starring Jack Quaid as Clark Kent in the animated show My Adventures With Superman, the series narrates the tale of Clark Kent’s early days as a Daily Planet journalist.

Showcasing his initial days of wearing a certain blue-and-red super suit, the show presented the superhero as someone who won’t let his inexperience get in the way of doing the right thing. Voiced by Quaid, the 2023 animated TV series left behind the dark version of Superman.

“What I love about the character is that he’s a person who wants to do the right thing. To see a superhero doing something super and heroic is very heartwarming to me.” Jack Quaid told Yahoo Entertainment.

During the conversation with the outlet, ahead of the SAG-AFTRA strikes, Jack Quaid expressed how proud he was to voice the positive version of Superman. But the actor was also quick to say that he has nothing against Henry Cavill’s darker versions of Superman.

Jack Quaid Offers Rare Support to Henry Cavill’s Grim Kal-El

While DC is preparing for Superman to witness his brighter days, and even Jack Quaid starred as a positive version of the character in his 2023 animated TV show My Adventures With Superman, it seems the grim and gritty days of Superman are gone.

However, amid James Gunn consciously moving away from the dark Superman era portrayed by Henry Cavill, Quaid offered his rare support to that particular version.

Offering his unwavering support to the attempted dark version of Superman by Henry Cavill in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, and even Christopher Reeve’s angst-ridden take in Richard Lester’s Superman III, Jack Quaid claimed to appreciate it all.

Claiming that it’s only valid to take risks and try new things rather than repeating the same thing, Quaid showered the gritty version of Kal-El with his support and respect.

Henry Cavill as Superman

“A gritty Superman isn’t necessarily out of character. I prefer the positive spin on him, but I think Henry’s performance as both Clark and Superman was wonderful. Every conceivable iteration has been valid; this is a character that has existed for so long and you have to take risks and try new things because otherwise you’re just repeating yourself.”

Despite Jack Quaid’s support for the gritty version of Kal-El, and fans’ appreciation for Henry Cavill’s darker version of Superman, James Gunn appears focused on kicking off a new phase of DC’s beleaguered cinematic universe with a positive Superman.
