Liam Neeson talks drinking, drugs and dating in an interview for GQ’s April issue.

The 61-year-old star proudly told the magazine that he gave up alcohol almost a year ago.

 

“I was drinking too much,” Neeson admitted. “It started since my wife died.”

The actor and wife Natasha Richardson had been married for fifteen years when she died in a ski accident in 2009.

“Last year, I just thought — they’ve been throwing these action movies at me, and I thought, ‘Okay, let’s just change it a little bit,'” Neeson recalled. “And it’s been great. I love it.”

The star said one of his greatest fears is that his children will fall victim to addiction.

“My boys are teenagers. They’re experimenting… there’s a worry nowadays, with every parent I’ve spoken to,” the actor said. “It’s [expletive] drugs. It’s a virus. A teenager can take it and suddenly they can be hooked, and it changes their life and their family’s forever… That’s my constant worry.”

Neeson confided that the “dangerous avenues” available to teenagers make him wish Richardson was there to share his concern. He confirmed that he is not currently dating, and that for now he’s “keeping myself to myself.”

“I like it that way,” the actor said. “I’m not hunting.” He visits Richardson’s grave once or twice a week, “Just to talk.”

Neeson’s latest movie, Non-Stop, debuted in theaters on February 28. He is set to appear in a number of upcoming films, including Taken 3.
