The Downtown El Paso skyline shines in the trailer for the new action thriller “Memory” starring Liam Neeson.
Neeson plays an aging assassin-for-hire diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease struggling with memory loss who finds himself in a quandary when tasked to kill a child in a hit job in El Paso, according to a plot summary.
“Memory” opens in theaters on April 29. Neeson has become a prolific action movie star often playing gruff characters with particular set of skills out for revenge.
The trailer includes scenes showing El Paso police and patrol cars as well Neeson blasting people with a silencer and smashing heads into a car’s windows and a sideview mirror.
The movie is set in El Paso but was mostly filmed in Bulgaria — there’s no green grass on the side of highways in the desert of far West Texas.
Movie crews in El Paso filmed exterior shots in Downtown, Scenic Drive and Rim Road in 2021, according to the IMDb (Internet Movie Database) film, TV shows and celebrity information website.
USA Today reported that Neeson said he was attracted to the “immersive, gritty storyline” as well as the role: “It allowed me an opportunity to research the tragic and mysterious conditions of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.”
The film is a remake of the 2003 Belgian movie “The Memory of a Killer” and also stars Guy Pearce and Monica Bellucci.
“Memory” is directed by Martin Campbell, who also directed the James Bond movie “Casino Royale” (2006), “Green Lantern” (2011) and “The Mask of Zorro” (1998) with Antonio Banderas.
