The Naked Gun remake has gotten its release date.Per Variety, it’s been revealed that the long-gestating Naked Gun remake will be released in theaters by Paramount on July 15, 2025.

The film, which doesn’t yet have an official title, serves as a reboot of the Naked Gun franchise which originally starred Leslie Nielsen.

Taken and Star Wars icon Liam Neeson will lead the cast of the remake, which was co-written by director Akiva Schaffter alongside Dan gregor and Doug Man. Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane is producing with Fuzzy Door partner Erica Huggins.

Many know Liam Neeson as the face of the Taken trilogy. Since then, he’s been in a host of other movies that show his skills as an action actor.

The new Naked Gun movie will have some stiff competition when it debuts in theaters. It will be competing directly against the first film of the DCU, Superman: Legacy, which will premiere days earlier on July 11, 2025.

The MCU’s big-budget superhero feature, The Fantastic Four, will also be dropping soon after on July 25. Other films that will be playing in theaters when the Naked Gun reboot premieres include the John Wick spinoff, Ballerina, along with the live-action How to Train Your Dragon remake and the anticipated horror sequel The Black Phone 2.

The Original Naked Gun Creators Are Not Involved With the Reboot

Original director David Zucker and co-writer Pat Proft addressed the remake in a 2023 interview, confirming that they are not directly involved.

They shared how they were originally a part of the project at the very start, but a joke written into their script about a breast reduction was said to be too offensive. That had them wondering about the restrictions that will be placed upon the remake without their involvement, especially with Ted creator Seth MacFarlane attached.

George Lucas told Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor that their improvised sound effects were unnecessary.

“About four years ago, Pat and I had one meeting over at Paramount with the then-head of production there,” Zucker told THR. “It was a woman who complained about some joke that Pat and I wrote about a police officer having to adjust her Kevlar vest or have a breast reduction or something.

It’s just a stupid, mild joke, but that was too much for them. So I can’t even imagine how they’re limiting whoever does Naked Gun 4, if they’re that frightened. We’re not involved.”

Proft added, “I’m not happy — and there’s a story with it. But I’m not pleased. It may come out and may be great — and good for that — but I sure as f*** should be writing it.

I should have done this one… We’ve been totally blocked out of it. The unfortunate part of it is that Paramount owns it, so they can do what they f***ing want. So that’s it.”

Everyone will see how the remake turns out when it hits theaters on July 15, 2025.
