LeBron James is still in the dark over his own retirement plans

LeBron James can’t decide if he wants to say goodbye to basketball with a big send-off or just quietly walk away.

The NBA superstar, who’s 39-years-old and in his 21st season, has been thinking about this while playing in his record-breaking 20th All-Star game. Some sports stars make the decision to go public when they’re going to retire, so they can have a big celebration.

Others, like San Antonio Spurs legend Tim Duncan, just stop playing when the season ends without any fuss. But LeBron is still uncertain on how he’ll call time when he eventually calls it a day, suggesting the decision isn’t imminent, at least.

“I’m 50-50, I’m going to be honest, because there are times when I feel like I guess I owe it to my fans that have been along this journey with me for two decades plus,” James told reporters, via the Daily Mirror. “To be able to give them that moment where it’s every city and whatever the case may be and they give you your flowers or whatever the case may be.

“That seems cool. But the other side of that, I’ve never been that great with accepting, like, praise. It’s a weird feeling for me.”

He’s also shooting a cool 52% from the field, and nearly 40% from the three-point line. James has already won one title with the Lakers, and he’s not planning on leaving anytime soon.

“I am a Laker, and I’m happy and have been very happy being a Laker the last six years, and hopefully, it stays that way,” he added. “But I don’t have the answer to how long it is or which uniform I’ll be in. Hopefully [it] is with the Lakers. It’s a great organisation, so many greats. But we’ll see.”

The Lakers’ first game after the All-Star break will be against the Golden State Warriors at Chase Center on Thursday night. In their most recent clash in late January, the Lakers just managed to emerge victorious 145-144 in double overtime, with James scoring a whopping 36 points, grabbing 20 rebounds and making 12 assists.

The 2022 NBA champs could have added a basketball legend to their squad, according to ESPN. It was revealed Golden State made a bold move to try and tempt the four-time MVP from LA before the trade deadline.

Not only the Lakers, but LeBron himself turned it down. Interestingly, James has before spoken about how much he wanted to team up with Warriors star Steph Curry.

“In today’s game, there’s some motherf***ers in today’s game, but Steph Curry, he’s the one that I wanna play with for sure, in today’s game,” James said on an episode of HBO’s The Shop in June 2022. “I love everything about that guy. Lethal.

“When he get out his car, you better guard him right from the moment he pulls up to the arena. You might wanna guard him when he gets out of the bed. Swear to god. He’s serious.”
