MLS expert Andrew Wiebe has claimed opposing players are underestimating Inter Miami’s Luis Suarez because of Lionel Messi.
The Herons made another big move in the transfer market this year in signing the 37-year-old striker on a Designated Player contract, with Suarez reuniting with Messi in Florida at Inter Miami.
Despite a poor pre-season, Suarez is now finally up and running in MLS after the striker scored twice in Inter Miami’s 5-0 win against state rivals Orlando City, with Messi also bagging a brace.

Yet speaking on MLS’s Extra-Time Radio, pundit Wiebe claimed that MLS defenders are underestimating what Suarez can do after the striker’s poor start to life at Inter Miami coupled with Messi’s presence.
The Uruguay international enjoyed a field day on Saturday with Orlando failing to properly defender Suarez, allowing the forward to cause the Lions some real damage in their 5-0 defeat to Inter Miami.
Weibe said on MLS defenders not giving Suarez enough credit so far: “If Suarez is in rhythm, he doesn’t need four or five chances to score, he only needs two.
“Look at the goals he scored, the first one is off the give away. There’s so much gravity around Messi that two defenders left Suarez alone for a cutback. If you defend like that, you get your just desserts.”
Luis Suarez could be as dangerous as Lionel Messi for Inter Miami
Messi will clearly steal headlines no matter what happens this season with MLS teams already looking to mark the Argentine international out of games to little effect.
Yet this method could only make Suarez that bit more clinical for Inter Miami, especially once the striker hits full-form with his goalscoring touch already coming back on Saturday.
This is a player who is considered by many as one of the most lethal in front of goal in the 21st century, and MLS clubs underestimating Suarez are in for a world of trouble when they finally face the striker.
