Despite being ninth in the Western Conference, the Lakers are beating some of the best teams in the league right now.

LeBron James, Anthony Davis probable for Warriors vs. Lakers Game 1 - Golden State Of Mind

The Los Angeles Lakers have shocked NBA fans for yet another time. The ninth seed in the Western Conference beat another leading team on Sunday. The Lakers played against the third-seed Minnesota Timberwolves at home in the Crypto.com arena. The Lakers grabbed the 120-109 win against one of the best teams in the league.

All the Lakers contributed to the win, LeBron James with 29 points, 8 rebounds, and 9 assists. All the starting five scored in double digits, including Rui HachimuraAustin Reaves, and D’Angelo Russell adding a total of 47 points. But the star of the show was Anthony Davis as he scored a double-double with 27 points and a whopping 25 rebounds.

Despite being the ninth seed in the West and having a poor winning record, the Lakers have won against the best teams in the league recently. In their last game against the 2nd seed in the East, the Milwaukee Bucks, Lakers won in the absence of LeBron James. Similarly, on Monday the team won against the 1st team in the West, the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Lakers have won five of their seven last games. Four of them are by beating the top four teams in the league. This might be the result of the contribution of the players other than the stars. If the Lakers succeed in winning their next games, they still may be able to compete in the playoffs.

The NBA world is shocked by the Lakers’ win against the Timberwolves

The Lakers’ current run is understandably surprising fans, as they are winning against the best teams on one hand and have lost against teams that are worse than them on the other. As the team is fighting to get selected for the playoffs, the extreme ups and downs in the team’s record this season have created confusion among fans.

Not very long ago, in January, the Lakers lost games against the teams with less than .500 in the West. This resulted in the Lakers landing on the 9th spot in the rankings. After Sunday’s unexpected win of the Lakers, fans took to social media to react to the news.

The Timberwolves were missing two of their starters in the game, Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert. In the loss, Anthony Edwards and Naz Reid both scored 25 points each. But as they were missing multiple players, including Monte Morris, the team failed to hold off the Lakers.
