Artificial Intelligence is not always preferred.

SUMMARY

One Piece Volume 108 has issued a warning in the Usopp Gallery about not submitting AI-generated art works for the manga in the future.
AI software do not consider the copyright factors and there are several anime and creators who have faced the problem of plagiarism after using Artificial Intelligence.

Even One Piece has faced backlash from the fans since plagiarism can cause copyright infringement and they do not want their favorite anime to suffer from such issues.

One Piece is one of the longest anime of all time, running for more than 25 years. Even after running for so long, it has kept the same level of excitement among the fans. Since anime and manga have become mainstream, One Piece has gained massive popularity outside Japan. Monkey D. Luffy’s journey to be the King of the Pirates has attained legendary fame.

It is not easy to run for so many years smoothly without any problems. Eiichiro Oda’s magnum opus has faced several problems in the past, but it came out strong every time. Recently, One Piece volume 108 was released, and it strictly mentioned a rule for the fans to follow so that they do not have any more problems in the future.

Eiichiro Oda has always been very considerate towards the fans. He tries to surprise the fans and keep their excitement level at the peak with his magnum opus. One of the things that the fans love about One Piece is how it includes a fan-art section for them named The Usopp Gallery. Fans submit their art related to One Piece, and a few selected ones are put up in that section. But One Piece Volume 108 had issued a special message addressed to the fans about a serious issue.

It read,

“The submissions we accept cannot include: works that imitate third parties other than those of Mr. Oda, works that infringe on the copyright or copyrights of third parties. Furthermore, any painting method can be used for the submitted works, but please do not use AI to generate the works.”

It has been mentioned not to use any other characters except the ones from One Piece due to copyright issues.

The crucial part comes later when it says the work should not be done with the help of Artificial Intelligence, or AI. AI software like Midjourney and DALL-E are specially designed to generate multiple images within seconds. These software do not ask permission from the copyright holder and might lead to problems in the future. Plagiarism is one of the dangers of using AI and there are several anime that have suffered from this problem.

One Piece Has Faced Backlash from Fans in the Past for AI Usage

One Piece has previously suffered from AI-generation problems. So, the creator knows how harmful it can be, especially when the sentiments of the fans are involved. Eiichiro Oda is pretty familiar with the concept since he has used it. He once posted on X (formerly Twitter) about using ChatGPT to get ideas for his upcoming chapters. He also used it for creating Rob Lucci’s artwork.

But the task that caused the fans to backlash on Eiichiro Oda was when he used Artificial Intelligence to compose and write a One Piece song’s lyrics. So, Oda sensei knows that prevention is better than cure. Instead of using taking any chances, he outright requested the fans to stop sending AI-generated artwork as it might cause harm to the manga.
