With the NBA regular season going into overdrive mode, every game now matters for the teams vying for playoff spots. The Warriors are no different as they are in a fight with the Lakers and the Mavs for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

But when things go wrong, they go wrong in plenty. The Warriors not only suffered a blow to their playoff bid against the Bulls, but now it seems they have a massive Stephen Curry-sized problem nibbling at their ankle.

Stephen Curry limps off from Warriors vs Bulls

On Wednesday, Stephen Curry seemingly picked up an ankle injury during the game against the Chicago Bulls. The point guard was seen limping to the back in the fourth quarter of the game and did not make a return. Following the game, Warriors HC Steve Kerr informed the media that the 35-year-old plunged his leg into a bucket of ice, but no further update was provided.

In the fourth quarter of the game, with four minutes on the clock, Curry tried to drive his way into the Bulls’ area, but his right ankle rolled sideways as his shoe slid on the surface. Curry was in visible discomfort following the incident and left the match moments later. Steph Curry’s night was over with 15 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist to his name.

The Warriors came into the game with a 12-3 record in their last 15 games and are one of the in-form teams in the league. A win could have strengthened their foothold in the playoff race with the Lakers and the Mavs. However, things did not quite go according to plan at the Chase Center as the Bulls outlasted the hosts in a closely fought contest.

After the Warriors took the lead in the first quarter, the Bulls charged back in the next two quarters thanks to DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic. The duo chipped in with 33 points each with the Montenegrin dishing out 11 rebounds and 5 assists compared to DeRozan’s 8 and 4 in the same stats.

For the Warriors Klay Thompson, who is rumored to be involved in a summer move, only got past the 20-point mark with his 25 points, 2 assists and 1 rebound. Draymond Green, who recently broke Larry Bird’s 3-pointer record, also contributed 11 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists.

The San Francisco-based team put up a fight in the fourth quarter the Bulls’ 10-point lead was only chopped down to 3. After Curry left the court, the home team did get a chance to tie the game but failed to capitalize on the openings.

Brandin Podziemski failed to tie the game with a point-blank layup attempt with seven seconds left on the clock. Curry’s replacement, Lester Quinones also failed to convert his half-court attempt that could’ve won the game for the Warriors.

Despite the seemingly bad result on paper, the Warriors are only 1.5 games behind 8th placed Mavs with the Lakers accompanying them with the game difference from the final playoff spot. The Warriors will take on the Spurs on March 10 and will be hoping to have their charismatic leader, Stephen Curry back in action.
