Stephen Curry has been cleared for on-court activities but will miss Wednesday’s matchup involving the Golden State Warriors and Dallas Mavericks due to a right ankle injury.
DALLAS — Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry has been cleared for on-court activities after recovering from a right ankle injury ahead of Wednesday’s matchup against the Dallas Mavericks, according to multiple reports. However, the star point guard won’t play against Dallas as he prepares for a weekend duel with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Following the shorthanded Warriors’ 112-102 road victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Monday at Frost Bank Center, coach Steve Kerr addressed questions regarding Curry’s status in the team’s upcoming game, conveying that the superstar guard is likely to be sidelined against the Mavs.
“Yeah, we needed that and obviously we’ll reassess tomorrow, but I don’t expect him to play in Dallas,” Kerr said before Curry’s official status was confirmed on Tuesday.
The Warriors, who won their first game without Curry this season in San Antonio, lost the four-time NBA champion to a right ankle injury during the fourth quarter of the Warriors’ 125-122 loss to the Chicago Bulls on Thursday at Chase Center.
Curry’s MRI revealed no structural damage, and the timetable for the 35-year-old guard’s return to the lineup is going to be shorter than initially expected.
“We have another tough game coming up,” Kerr added. “We needed this one [against the Spurs], obviously. We’re in a fight right now down the stretch of the season. So, good to get the win and build some confidence without Steph, too.”
Curry has averaged 26.9 points, 4.9 assists and 4.4 rebounds in 59 games this season, shooting 44.9 percent from the floor, 40.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 92.0 percent from the free throw line.
Given how competitive the Western Conference standings remain, each matchup between the Mavs and Warriors holds significant importance. Dallas, holding a 37-28 record, ranks eighth in the West, while the 10th-ranked Warriors have gone 34-30 thus far. Wednesday night at American Airlines Center will be a big one.
