Stephen A. Smith Says He Would Be Interested In Replacing A Popular Late Night TV Show Host When His ESPN Contract Expires In 2025
Stephen A. Smith has hardly made a secret of his desire to leave ESPN once his current deal runs out, that is unless they can give him a significant hike in salary.
While the ‘First Take’ host is willing to move on from the network, he wouldn’t mind remaining with its parent company, Walt Disney.
Smith has revealed he would be interested in replacing Jimmy Kimmel as a late-night show host on ABC should the latter retire. Kimmel has suggested that he could call it quits after his contract expires in 2026 and Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports asked the ESPN star whether he would be interested in the vacancy if Kimmel calls curtains.
“I’d be very interested in succeeding him,” Smith replied, though he added he would only do so if he was asked by his bosses at Disney.
This isn’t the first time Stephen A. has expressed a desire to succeed Kimmel. 15 months ago, he admitted he would love to be Kimmel’s heir to Sean Hannity.
Smith’s contract is set to expire in July next year.
Stephen A. Smith Has Broadened His Horizons At ESPN
The 56-year-old has branched out from his role as a debate host on ESPN. He has built up some experience in producing while he has started up his own show, ‘The Stephen A. Smith Show’, which is doing very well on YouTube as he discusses a range of topics and doesn’t restrict himself to sports.
Even so, we aren’t sure Stephen A. Smith is funny enough to replace Jimmy Kimmel.
