James Gunn has once again gotten all the DCU fans hooked with new Superman updates, though this one leaves no room for doubts about his upcoming film not peaking!

There has been a lot of debate and questioning of David Corenswet’s full potential ever since James Gunn announced that he would be the one replacing Henry Cavill in the ‘new DC Universe.’ Then there were also doubts if SUPERMAN, the upcoming film that would kickstart Gunn’s era in the DCU, would actually be worthy of being watched.

After the recent turn of events and revelation, as it turns out, all of their doubts and insecurities about the DC Universe getting screwed up are actually about to disappear.

This comes after Gunn’s recent update about all the comic book panels that have inspired his first film in the DC Universe, and this has gotten fans convinced that Corenswet’s Clark Kent would be better than Cavill’s.

James Gunn shares the Comic Book Panels that inspired David Corenswet’s Superman

All the panels that inspired Gunn’s DCU

Recently, James Gunn took to his Instagram handle (@jamesgunn) to quash all of fans’ doubts about the upcoming film of the Man of Steel not standing up to their expectations. He shared excerpts from multiple uncountable comic book panels, captioning the post as:

“Someone on Threads asked what’s inspiring our #Superman movie other than the Donner films… but there are too many to count.”

In the post, there are a lot more inspirations than just the Donner films and All-Star Superman. Among all the panels that added a swathe of inspiration to his version of the DC Universe, there are both comics as well as animated shows of the beloved superhero.

These include pages from Action Comics #1, Kingdom Come, The New 52, The Silver Age of Comic Books, and Superman for All Seasons among the most recognizable ones. Then, there were excerpts from the animated shows as well, including those from Fleischer’s version of Superman.

Superman: The Animated Series

But the one that truly caught fans’ attention to the core was Gunn’s addition of an image from the superhit fan-favorite Superman: The Animated Series — something that pretty much redefined the Big Blue Boy Scout throughout 1996 to 2000.

Since this last one quite literally stands as the definitive version of Clark Kent in the modern era in the eyes of most die-hard fans and the other inclusions are equally praiseworthy, fans seem to be finally convinced that David Corenswet‘s Man of Steel will be better than Henry Cavill‘s.

“Can someone recommend me some good superman comics for a newbie please? I’m so excited for this film after seeing this post now!” ~ @jordanmattallen21“So basically the opposite of when Snyder completely got it wrong. Perfect.” ~ @chrisyoxall“Superman: The Animated Series and Fleischers’ Superman, I’m in.” ~ @adamhlavac“Love the second panel. Can’t wait to see a kinder Superman ❤️” ~ @itsnhutle“I love how you’re a huge superman nerd like the rest of us, the movie is gonna be PEAK!! all of your inspirations/references are so good!!! 🫶🏻” ~ @carlasfilms“Oh man… This is it!! Not that you want or need anything else but I picked up Action Comics #786 at a gas station years ago as kid, for trip reading material. No one will ever talk about that edition, but just like this vibe, it encompases exactly who he is. I cannot wait for this!! 🙌🏽” ~ @sachinsahel

While Zack Snyder‘s DCEU was also enjoyable for the most part, what many fans disliked about it was just how dark and grounded it was; leaving no room for other important factors about the fan-beloved superhero. However, Gunn doesn’t seem to be repeating that mistake, so fans are all swooning for his first film marking the DC reboot!

Superman is set to hit the theatres on the 11th of July, 2025.
